He would clench his jaw in anger when she said that this all happened while he was away, suddenly upset about the situation all over again. He hadn’t even thought to include that he hadn’t been there; he didn’t think that it matter but of course it did. Obviously it was his fault because he wasn’t there. When her brother said that he should have sent men to protect her he would roll his eyes, “I had men there to guard her,” he would grate out. When she scooted closer and wrapped her arms around his waist he would sigh softly, hooking his arm around her and tugging her tightly against him, shifting to gently kiss her forehead. “I’m glad that they didn’t end badly, as well,” he would murmur, though he knew that it had ended up pretty crappy anyways; the knight that had killed the king was young, and was likely scarred by the situation. The only thing that was good about the situation was that the King hadn’t managed to get his hands on her. After a moment or two he would move to gently press a kiss to her cheek, “Well, are we going to stay here or are we headed back?” he would ask.

She frowned when she saw the anger on her husband's face and lifted a hand to smooth is brows with her fingers. "It's not your fault, love," she murmured to him. "Yes, he did have people there to protect me, but as we all know I'm not one to listen," she said with a shake of her head to her brother. "And it's not your fault, either, Al. No one is to blame but the person who caused the situation in the first place. Well. Maybe me, too, for not keeping the guard around that Alpin had left behind for me," she said on a soft sigh. She didn't think that Alasdair had meant anything against her husband. It was just his way of reacting to bad news. She turned her attention to Alpin when he pressed a kiss to her cheek and smiled at him. She pressed a quick kiss to his lips before she stood up. "I suppose we had better get back," she said with a smile before she turned to her brother who had also stood up. She wrapped her arms around Alasdair in a hug. "It was good to see you again, Al. I'm glad we got to make up, and you had better write to me when you can," she teased her brother gently before turning back to her husband. She held her hand out for him to take and flashed him another smile. "Ready when you are, love."

His gaze flicked to his sister's husband when the man spoke defensively. Honestly, he hadn't even thought about the fact that Alpin should have had guards there. He was so used to protecting his little sister that he still forgot that there was now someone else in her life that would be defending her too. "I didn't mean it like that," he mumbled. "And I know how Renny is. She would find a way to give a hundred men the slip if she wanted to be alone," he said with a shake of his head. When it seemed as though the two were leaving he would stand up, the puppy still tucked against his chest with one hand. He smiled when Renny said it was good to see him again and that she was glad that they had made up. He wrapped his free arm around her and hugged her as tightly as possible. "It was good to see you again, too," he assured her. "And I'm glad I got to apologize," he said with a smirk. "Yes, mother," he teased. "I will write to you every chance I get," he said in a dramatic, but teasing, tone. "Have a safe journey back," he said to her as they ended the hug. He turned to Alpin and held his hand out a bit awkwardly. "It was nice to see you again. Take care of my sister, would ya," he said in a half joking manner. "Try not to spoil her too much. Aww. Who am I kidding? Keep her happy. Give her whatever she wants," he said with a laugh.

When Alasdair said that he hadn’t meant it like that he would blink, “Hadn’t meant what like what?” he would ask, honestly a bit confused. He would let it drop, though, when Renny began to speak about the fault for the situation lying with the King and herself, “Perhaps this will teach you to listen and keep your guards with you,” he would say jokingly, his anger forgotten. When she kissed him and said that they had better get back he would smile slightly before also climbing to his feet, watching as the two said their goodbyes. When Renny came back and held her hand out he would gently grab it, only to have his attention divert to Alasdair when he awkwardly held out his hand, saying that it was nice to see him again. He would laugh softly and shake his head, dropping Renny’s hand and moving to grab the other man’s, yanking him closer for a brotherly man hug before moving back to his wife’s side, “The pleasure is mine,” he would joke, only to fall silent as the man spoke about not spoiling Renny, and then changed his mind and said to give her anything she wants, “I’ll give her the world if I can,” he would assure the man, shifting to gently kiss Renny on the cheek before dipping his head and moving past him and out of the garden, making his way back towards the stables.

After she had left the garden she’d gone to see to her own things, getting her clothes and personal items situated in the chambers that she had been granted, and making sure that her people were comfortable and such. After she was finished with all of that she had gone to the kitchen, having gotten an idea from wandering the gardens and watching Alasdair eating the berries. Once she got there she would speak to one of the cooks, trying to convince them to let her use the kitchen after they were all finished for the evening, which wouldn’t be long now. She wanted to bake a pie or something; she usually wasn’t so girly but she knew how to bake and it was actually quite comforting, so she was currently trying to reassure the cook that if he would just let her use the kitchens that she wouldn’t leave it a mess, nor would she set it on fire or something. “Look, I’m really not that incapable of cooking,” she would assure the man, only to sigh and close her eyes as he began to talk about the risk of letting an unknown person into the kitchens by themselves, especially not a Grand Duchess who might burn herself and blah, blah, blah. The man just droned on and on as if it wasn’t going to irritate her.

When his sister and her husband had left he'd remained in the gardens for a little while, petting the puppy absently. After a short time, however, he crouched over to pick up the wooden crate that he'd found as a bed for the little critter. He wandered over to the door that lead to the kitchens and immediately heard the conversation that was going on between his cook and the grand duchess. A smile tugged at his lips and he walked over to the cook. "If the lady wants to cook something, stop being so stingy with your kitchen and let her have at it," he said to the man with a shake of his head. The cook frowned at him, but he lifted his shoulders in a shrug to cut off anything else the man might have to say. "She's not going to set the place on fire, and it's not your job to protect her from accidentally burning herself. She's a grown woman and can make her own decisions," he said to the man, who finally held his hands up in surrender. Al couldn't help but laugh at the placating gesture the cook made. He turned to the grand duchess and offered her a smile before he made his way out of the kitchen. "Oh, I'm going to find a blanket to replace your vest for the puppy. I'll have one of the servants see to it that your vest is cleaned for you," he called over his shoulder.

When Alasdair suddenly appeared she would perk up, grinning as he demanded that the cook let her use the kitchens if she wanted to. She almost felt like sticking her tongue out at the cook, but didn’t think that it would go over very well with the Marquess. When the man commented that she was a grown woman and that she could take care of herself she would beam, “Exactly!” she would say, looking at the cook but gesturing towards Alasdair as if she was telling him that even his boss agreed with her. When the man held up his hands she would snicker softly, turning to glance as Alasdair just as he smiled at her, “Thank you,” she would say, only to shake her head as he started to walk away. She would follow after him, knowing that she had time before the cook would be finished with the kitchen. When he spoke about getting her vest back to her she would laugh and shrug, “There’s no need to worry about it. She’s probably chewed holes into and such, so it’s better used for her than being thrown out because I can’t use it anymore,” she would say, reaching into the crate to gently scratch behind the pup’s ears, “Isn’t that right?” she would coo down at the little creature.

He'd laughed at Treise's responses to him telling the cook to let her have her way. He'd learned a long time ago that arguing with a woman, especially if it was over her own safety, was a lost cause. Now if he could just teach every other man in the world that particular bit of knowledge. However when she followed him out of the kitchen, rather than staying to wait and do whatever it was that she wanted the kitchen for, he'd arch a brow at her. "Ah. I suppose that's true," he said to her comments about the vest and chuckled when she reached into the crate to scratch at the puppy's ears. Of course, the puppy had no idea what she was saying, but her tail thumped against the crate and she seemed to bob her head in agreement. Al shook his own head and laughed softly. "Still. I should find her an actual blanket. It might be summer, but the nights still get a bit chilly from time to time," he said with a smile. Actually, he didn't really have to look, considering a servant happened to have over heard the comment about a blanket and came rushing forward with what looked to be an old receiving blanket of sorts. "Ah. Perfect," he said, flashing the servant a grin in thanks. He carried the crate over to the table and placed it down before he scooped the puppy up and handed her over to the grand duchess. "If you don't mind," he said. He didn't figure she would, so he kind of just went ahead and rearranged the vest and blanket inside of the crate.

When he said that the pup would still need a blanket she would laugh softly, “I know, I was just saying that she can keep the vest as well,” she would say with a shrug, watching as a servant rushed over with a blanket. She would blink, kind of surprised at the eagerness expressed by the individual. She would let the thought drift away, though, as she followed Alasdair over to where he was setting the crate down on a table. When he handed the pup to her she would laugh softly, “I would never mind holding a puppy,” she would say with a grin, snuggling it against her chest before shifting to kiss the top of the pup’s head. When he turned back to the crate to arrange the blankets and vest she would watch him for a moment, noticing that he seemed rather focused, before grinning and quietly turning around to walk the other way, scratching behind the pup’s ears to keep her quiet and content. She wondered what the Marquess would do when he turned around to find them gone, though she figured it would be hysterical. She would move quickly and quietly into the kitchens though she wouldn’t spend much time in there before she was walking out into the Gardens, quickly walking through the area before crouching and crawling in between a couple of bushes, clutching the pup to her chest. She wondered briefly if the man would catch on to the fact that she was just messing around, though she wouldn’t worry about it too much.

He busied himself with arranging the vest and blanket in the crate, so that by the time he turned around she was long gone. A frown tugged at his lips and he spun around a few times as if she might just suddenly reappear. When that didn't work he heaved a sigh and wandered in the direction of the gardens. So far that seemed to be the woman's go to spot, and he was hoping that it was where she had gone to. He made his way through the gardens, searching pretty much every inch of the place before he finally caught sight of a foot. "I see you," he called out on a chuckle. He crouched down and reached out with both hands to part the bushes, shaking his head the whole time. "Was there something you were hoping to accomplish with this," he asked with an arched brow. He wanted to reach out and take the puppy, but if she was intent on keeping the little fur ball for a while, he figured it wouldn't hurt to let her hold the pup. So, instead he reached out and scratched behind one of the little ears with a smile.

Treise had to struggle to keep from giggling as she heard him moving through the Gardens, though she bit her lip and kept quiet until he eventually called out that he saw her. She wondered briefly if he was just doing it so that she would come out, though when he parted the bushes she would laugh, the look on his face rather amusing. “Uhm…no, not really? I figured it would be fun,” she would say with a shrug, though a grin had spread out over her face. “I didn’t think that you would be able to find me,” she would admit with a laugh, her eyes twinkling with mischief. Though, when he reached out to pet the pup she would shake her head slightly, suddenly sobering as she wondered if he was upset over it. She would swallow, glancing down at the pup for a moment before holding her out towards him, “Here, you can hold her if you’d like,” she would say.
Honestly, she wasn’t quite sure how she was supposed to act around the Marquess; she was usually pretty outgoing and such, unless she encountered something or somebody who’d been an idiot. And from what she’d heard and he seemed to have admitted, he had acted like an idiot. And she was supposed to be here to get him to start behaving better, but she found that she didn’t quite want to be stern and disapproving; she’d rather be more friendly and playful. She would bite her lip for a moment as she watches him, trying to think of what to say before she would suddenly grin, “So, I’m gonna make a pie,” she would say randomly, “Would you like to help?” she would ask with a tilt of her head.

He laughed and shook his head at her admission. Honestly, he thought that she'd been seriously trying to hide from him for a minute or two. He hadn't realized; at first, that she'd just been playing around. Then again, he'd been told by enough people that they didn't want anything to do with him..Not to mention the fact that she had said herself that she didn't want to be here. So. Ya know. When she offered the pup up to him he started to refuse and tell her she could keep the pup for now, but she didn't seem all that interested in actually giving him a choice. So he shut his mouth and merely took the puppy carefully from her. Once again he found himself tucking the little fur ball against his chest and laughing when the grand duchess suddenly decided to change the subject. He pushed himself up onto his feet and held his hand out to her. "How about I watch? Because; let's be honest, if you get me involved in actually cooking it, it will probably kill anyone who tries to eat it," he said with a grin. Okay, he might not be *that* bad of a cook, but he wasn't willing to risk it.

When he laughed at her topic change she would beam at him, watching as he stood before offering his hand to her. She would grab it and stand, though managed to stumble as he helped to pull her up and had to reach out and place her hand on his shoulder to keep herself from falling on him, which of course was absolutely embarrassing. She would laugh softly and shake her head once she was stable, hoping that he wouldn’t notice the red tinge in her cheeks, removing her hand and tempted to take a step back, though she knew that if she did she would walk right back into the bushes, “Sorry. Not used to letting people help me up,” she would laugh with a shrug, reaching up to brush her fingers quickly through her hair. When he said that he should probably just watch she would laugh and shake her head, “Or I could teach you! I think you’d love it!” she would exclaim eagerly, her brown eyes wide and hopeful as she stares at him, waiting for an answer. Whether or not he said yes she would be happy; she’d gained his presence which would be enough. While she would bake without it, she did prefer to have company.

He smiled faintly when she got unsteadily to her feet with his help. He did his best to help steady her, but it wasn't exactly easy to do with only one free hand. When she apologized for it he merely lifted his shoulders in a shrug. "It's fine," he said with a smile. "Sure, why not," he said with a laugh when she said she could teach him. He turned and headed off towards the kitchens, figuring it was about time to feed the puppy and put her down for a nap anyway. Once he arrived in the kitchen he filched some dried meat strips for the puppy and took her out to the dining area where her crate was still settled on top of the table. He placed the dried strips of meat in the crate and grabbed it from the table, carrying it back towards the kitchen. Settling on the floor with the puppy he tore up the strips of meat and hand fed her until her belly was full. At which point her eyes started to drift closed and he couldn't help but smile. Carefully, so as to not disturb the puppy too much, he placed her in the wooden crate and then stood to look and see if the grand duchess had followed.

Treise had indeed followed him back into the kitchens, though when he went into the dining area she had stayed in the kitchens, moving to quickly wash her hands before snooping about the place, looking for all of the items that she would need. By the time he came back with the pup she had gathered the majority of what they would need, besides the flour, which she was having a difficulty finding. So off she went, searching through the cupboards and such that she hadn’t yet gone through before he’d arrived. When she finally did find the flour it was on a shelf far above her head, though instead of going to search for a footstool or something of the sort she would simply climb up onto the counter below the cupboard and retrieve the back. Though, instead of carefully climbing down she would actually just jump off of the counter. When she landed on her feet a broad grin would flash over her face, despite the fact that the bag hadn’t been closed securely and the flour managed to puff out everywhere, including on her shirt and in her hair. She would laugh softly when she discovered this, though it did give her an idea. Tucking the idea away for now she would move back over to where she had brought everything else in order to plop the bag down before turning to the Marquess, “So you really don’t know how to cook?” she would ask, wondering if he had just been pulling her leg or something.
