"Talk to Queen Moira," he said on a laugh that wasn't really a laugh. "That woman hates me more than my own sister," he said with a shake of his head. "I don't know that she actually would want to sort any of this out; especially if she's as in love with the Duke as you're saying she is. There's no way I'll be able to see her with him around, and shy of finding out the next time he leaves the palace without her," he said, letting his voice trail of. "And wouldn't that look wonderful? Sneaking in to see my sister while her husband's gone," he said with a snort. "No. It's best to wait it out and see how things go. Maybe she'll try to write to me or something eventually," he said with a shrug. He had no idea if he would ever hear from his sister again.
He shook his head at her apology. "I expected this, so," he said with a shrug. "As per not being here to pass judgement on me; I hate to break it to you, lady, but that is passing judgement on me. I don't know what world you live in that it isn't," he said with another shake of his head. "When your word tells someone how I am or am not with something; that means you're passing judgement," he said with an unamused laugh. "Whatever keeps you happy, Lady," he said with a shake of his head at her comment about having her own servants and the like. His brow arched when she made her excuses to leave. He'd managed to eat as much as he could given the situation, so he just lifted his shoulders in a shrug. "I'm done eating. I figured that part of you passing judgement would be to hover over my shoulder while I attended my duties as Marquess," he said. However, he didn't give her much opportunity to respond as he turned and headed out of the dining hall. He wandered into the kitchen where almost every worker cast glares at him, but he shrugged it off. He walked over to the cook and began discussing meals for the week to come, and if anyone was interested to note, it seemed as though he knew a good deal about cooking himself.

She couldn't help but laugh at him saying that it was passing judgement, "No, I'm here to record how you're acting in an impartial manner and report back to the Clergy. And perhaps try to help you with whatever you might still need to learn, or give advise or whatever it is I might be needed for. I don't really know, I've never had to do this before," she would say with a shrug. He could think whatever he wanted to, but she didn't have the power to strip his title. She might be able to sway the Clergy's mind in one direction or another but she would rather try to remain impartial from here on out.
She would blink when he said that he thought her job was to hover over him, "No, it's not. If I'm hovering over you how are you supposed to be a Marquess?" she would ask rhetorically before continuing out of the dining hall. She knew that this was going to be difficult, but now realized that it was probably her own fault. She would shake her head slightly with a sigh before walking down the hall that she had found herself in. She was trying to think of ways to fix her mistake, though she was coming up with a blank; sure she'd been forced to apologize to people before, but never somebody so prickly. She didn't stop moving as she thought about it, and eventually found herself at the end of a hall. She would blink and stare at the door for a moment before shrugging and pushing it open, finding herself outside once again though she now appeared to be in some sort of garden.

He shook his head and laughed. "Right, because someone who comes in automatically treating me like I'm the worst person in the world just because I didn't greet her at the stables is impartial," he said with a snort. "I neither need nor want your help, Lady. Just let me do my job and be here for however long they want you here. At the end of it all, I don't particularly care what you tell them. For the time being, though, I'm still the Marquess of Sunil and will continue to act as such until I'm told otherwise," he said as he lifted his shoulders in a shrug and continued into the kitchens. When he was finished speaking to the cook he sighed and left that area. He spoke to a few more people along the way, but when the majority of his business for this part of the day was over with he found himself wandering towards the garden. It was probably one of the only places that he actually felt comfortable at Sunil other than in his own chambers. When he reached the door that took him to the garden he frowned as it looked like someone was already there. He opened the door and peered outside to spot the Grand Duchess. He gave a low groan, but figured the garden was big enough that they could avoid one another. He closed the door behind him and wandered off towards a different area of the garden. He stopped when he reached one of the many berry bushes and crouched down to check them out. They appeared to be doing relatively well, and so he plucked one of the many berries that looked ripe. He gave it a gentle squeeze and the juices that ran from it told him it was indeed ripe. He smiled and popped it into his mouth, making a mental note to let the kitchen staff know of his discovery.

She heard the door open behind her, but didn’t pay it any attention, instead continuing to move through the gardens, occasionally allowing her fingers to trail against leaves and such. She preferred the outdoors to the stuffiness of even her own home, and it wasn’t any different now. As she walked through the flowers and such she would shuck her shoes, making note to come back and pick them up later. She wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going, singing softly and letting her thoughts be consumed by the garden. She was actually kind of surprised at how well kept it was; the last march that she had visited had a very small garden, and it honestly wasn’t well managed. It was a delight to see that this one was, though, and as she walked she even came across a white rose bush. She couldn’t help but grin at the flowers, reaching out to gently brush her fingers over the petals before moving on from them, figuring that the place must have much more than just that. Eventually she began to see more edible plants; bushes filled with berries and the like. She would beam at the sight of a blueberry bush, and would move just a bit closer until she realized that somebody else was in the same area. She would glance up to find the Marquess standing there, seemingly savoring a blueberry that he had just popped into his mouth. She would blink, her gaze shifting from him to the blueberries with longing before she would shake her head, “My apologies,” she would murmur, her brows furrowing slightly before she turns to move in a different direction. She’d been trying to give him his space, not wind up in the same exact area that he was in.

The blueberry had definitely been ripe when he'd popped it into his mouth. In fact it had been rather juicy, and he found his mouth watering a bit at the thought of what the cooks might make with the blueberries. If there was one thing that could be said about the kitchen staff at Sunil; it was that they were excellent cooks. He looked up at the sound of someone approaching and frowned when he spotted the Duchess. She seemed a bit contrite at having stumbled upon him and he found himself feeling like maybe he could have been a bit more welcoming to the woman. It wasn't her fault that she was here, nor her fault that she'd believed everything she'd heard about him. He likely would have reacted the same way that she had if the rolls had been reversed. "You're fine. Feel free to make yourself at home while you're hear. I know that Sunil isn't a fraction of the size of your home, but it's comfortable enough," he said with a shrug. He turned his attention back to the berry bushes and reached around to pluck a fresh raspberry from one of the plants that wasn't far from the blueberry bushes. A smile curved his lips when he popped it into his mouth and savored the flavor a bit. Raspberries were just as good in his opinion as blueberries, though distinctly different. It was funny, really. He spaced out a bit, lost in thought and his thumbs automatically hooked onto the top of his belt. His hip was cocked a bit as he starred off into space; a stance that was quite typical of him, actually.

Upon hearing him say that she was fine she would turn back to face him, smiling slightly, “Actually, I quite like the smaller size. I don’t have enough family to fill the silence at my duchy. Honestly, I think if I had a brother I would have liked to be married to a Marquess with a smaller holding like this,” she would murmur absentmindedly, letting her gaze drift from him and around the garden once again. She didn’t quite realize that she had told him all of that, though when she did she found that she was quite surprised at herself. Not that long ago she had thought that she wouldn’t ever be able to have a decent conversation with the man, yet here she was revealing what she’d wished for as a child…and even now as an adult. She couldn’t help but grin when she watched him move to a raspberry bush, eating a berry and seemingly losing himself in thought. After a moment of watching him she would clear her throat softly, “Where did you go?” she would ask curiously, her head tipping a bit to the side as she waits to see if he would answer her. She didn’t even think that he might blow her off; she was just used to being friendly with most people. And honestly, his actions made her think a bit of her little sister; she often got lost in thought, and whenever Treise asked her the same question she would gladly tell her what she had been thinking, and more often than not the Duchess would enjoy whatever it was that she had to tell her.

"I doubt that your parents or brother would have allowed you to marry someone below your family's rank," he'd commented. "The daughter of a Grand Duchy marrying a Marquess is a bit like the daughter of a March marrying a knight," he said with a shake of his head. "It might happen from time to time, but not very often. Though, I suppose that marrying "up" wouldn't really have been an option for you, unless they had married you off to a foreign prince or some viceroy," he said with a shrug. When she interrupted his little space out session he shook his head and moved his hands to cross his arms over his chest. "Just thinking, I suppose," he said with a sigh. "Wondering if there's any way I might actually be able to convince my sister that I'm sorry for acting like such an idiot," he admitted on a sigh. "I might be an idiot and act badly in the heat of the moment, but at least I'm human enough to regret it afterwards," he said with an unamused laugh. "Renny and I put each other through hell growing up. I can't tell you how many times I got socked on the ear by my father or yelled at by my mother over something that was actually her fault," he said with a laugh that was more amused now. "But she used to try to jump in to defend me, and they couldn't deny her anything, so she'd always get whatever punishment lessened just by being her," he laughed.

She could only laugh when he said that it probably wouldn’t have been an option for her to marry a Marquess, “I tend to get what I want,” she would say with a shake of her head, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. She liked to think that she had her parents wrapped around her little finger, but in reality they just didn’t care enough to not give her what she wanted. Though, now that she thought about it he was probably right. She would never have been allowed to marry a Marquess…and now she wasn’t really sure if she wanted to marry anybody. So, it was a little ridiculous to be thinking about childhood fantasies. When he revealed to her what he was thinking she would nod slightly, “And I bet you anything she still remembers that,” she would murmur, smiling kindly at him, “I’m sure she’s acted in ways that weren’t very logical from time to time,” she would murmur with a shrug, trying not to press any nerves or anything; he seemed really protective of his sister, and she didn’t want him thinking that she was talking crap about her again. “I guess the only way to find out is if you were actually able to apologize,” she would say, her tone actually sounding rather helpless. She was used to being able to help people solve their problems, but she wasn’t sure if she would be able to help the Marquess with this one. She did feel rather bad for him, and was tempted to offer him a hug, but she didn’t want him to think that she was being condescending or anything, so she would pass on the idea.

"I'm sure you do," he said with a laugh. "You don't strike me as the type that's used to hearing no from anyone," he said with a shake of his head. When she suggested that his sister still remembered it and had probably acted against logic herself before he would smile. "I'd be lying if I didn't admit that she has a bit of the O'Halloran temper," he said with a chuckle. "Okay, more than a bit," he shook his head. "Perhaps you're right. Though I can't imagine a way that I can make that apology come to life," he said on a sigh. "I know it doesn't seem like something that's worth dwelling over, but," he let his words trail off. There were times when it seriously felt like she was the only member of their family that actually cared about him. Blain had his own life away from Sunil, and the younger O'Halloran boys were either squires or pages somewhere. With the youngest of his brothers at that stage where he didn't want anything to do with anyone. He wanted to do everything on his own, which Al supposed was typical of a four year old. He shook his head, and if only he knew the conversation that was happening between his little sister and her husband.

She would laugh when he commented that she didn’t seem to be the type of person who was used to hearing no, “Oh, no. I’m used to hearing no. I just don’t listen to it,” she would say with a grin, though she was more talking about little things; ‘No, you can’t wear a kilt.’, ‘No, you’re not supposed to play with your cousins.’, ‘No, ladies aren’t supposed to like archery.’, and so on and so forth. It was actually quite amusing to think about all of the things that she’d been told no about yet she’d done anyways. When he told her about his sister having a temper she couldn’t help but laugh, “I’m afraid to break it to you, but I think it’s more of a woman thing than an O’Halloran thing,” she would joke, her tone playful. Though, when he continued on to talk about how it might not seem like something to dwell over she would shake her head, “No, it is something to be concerned about. If I had angered my sister I wouldn’t stop worrying about it, though I’d probably constantly bug her until she forgave me…but somehow I don’t think that’s something that would work for you and your sister,” she would say with a shrug and a laugh.
She would let the sound trail off, though, when she heard a faint noise coming from nearby. She would blink and glance away from the Marquess, letting her gaze trail over the bushes and such as she hears what sounded like whining again. After another moment or two of listening she would suddenly beam, “Alasdair, it sounds like a puppy!” she would say, turning to grin at him, “We’ve gotta find it,” she would say, moving to suddenly grab his hand before dragging him through the gardens, looking for the owner of the noises. And here was another no that she wasn’t listening to ‘No, a Grand Duchess shouldn’t be dragging a Marquess through a garden in search of a dog.’

He shook his head when she admitted that she just didn't listen when she was told no. That definitely didn't surprise him. He laughed at her suggestion on his sister's temper being more of a woman thing, but he wasn't about to agree to it. There might be times when he was stupid, but this wasn't one of them. "No, I don't think that would work for Ranait and I," he admitted with a shake of his head. When she suddenly got distracted by something, claiming to have heard a puppy he would cant his head to the side. However, she didn't give him much time to listen for the creature as she had grabbed a hold of his arm and proceeded to drag him through the gardens in search of it. "Lady," he started, only to be distracted by the sound of a puppy. He shook his head and carefully extracted his arm from her grip. He glanced around until he heard the sound again and then moved off in the direction that the sound had seemed to come from. A smile tugged at his lips and he dropped down onto one knee when he spotted the little ball of fur. "Over here," he called over his shoulder to the Grand Duchess before he dropped down to crawl towards the puppy that was cowering underneath a bush. "Shh. I won't hurt you," he said in soothing tones.

She would ignore him when he called her Lady, continuing to drag him along on her pursuit of the puppy, only to have him take his arm away and move off in a different direction. She would follow quietly behind him, looking hopefully at the back of his head until he dropped down onto one knee, causing her to grin wildly. When he called out that the puppy was over there she would move to kneel beside him, crouching down a bit so that she was more on level with the little creature as she looks at it. She would smile softly as she heard the Marquess talking to the animal, letting her gaze flick between him and the pup and back again. “It’s okay,” she would coo softly to the little creature, making sure that her voice was soft and soothing. After awhile the pup would finally move, crawling slowly towards Alasdair. When it had wormed its way into his lap she would look at the man with a grin, “It likes you!” she would exclaim, reaching out tentatively to gently scratch behind its ears so as to not scare it, “You know, dogs are supposed to be good judges of character,” she would say with a soft laugh before beaming at him. Honestly, now that they had the poor thing she was kind of surprised that the Marquess had helped her look for it, though she wouldn’t comment about it.

His expression softened when the puppy crawled over to him and wiggled itself into his lap. He stroked the small head carefully and was rewarded with multiple licks to his fingers. He chuckled softly and turned his attention to the woman who knelt next to him when she reached out to scratch the pup behind the ears. "Is that so," he asked with a laugh. "Then I guess I must not be the horrible monster everyone thinks me to be," he said teasingly. His attention turned back to the puppy that was curled up in his lap, chewing on the pad of his forefinger. Which, by the way, was pretty painful. Puppy teeth were pretty sharp and he was doing his damnedest not to wince when the teeth sunk into the more sensitive parts of his finger. "We should get you something to eat," he said with a chuckle as he scooped the puppy up with one hand and stood. He offered his hand to the Duchess, though he wasn't sure she'd accept it. Even if she didn't, he wouldn't let it bother him. Once they were standing he tucked the puppy against his chest and was rewarded with licks and nibbles to his chin. Which only made him smile more.

When he teased about not being the terrible monster everybody thought him to be she would laugh, “Oh, I wouldn’t take it that far,” she would joke back, watching as the pup nibbled and licked his fingers. She hadn’t seen a pup for quite a bit of time, and it did bring her a bit of joy to watch the little creature so comfortable with the man. She would laugh softly when he spoke to the puppy before scooping it up and standing, only to offer his hand to her. She wouldn’t hesitate to grab it, letting him help her up despite the fact that she wouldn’t have let anybody else; she liked to do things on her own, but she figured that it would be a gesture of good will if she accepted his help. Once she was standing she would watch as the pup began to lick and nibble at Alasdair’s chin, “It really does seem to like you,” she would comment, reaching out to gently pet the top of the creature’s head once again. She felt a longing to hold the little pup, though she would let him stay with the man for now, knowing that if he was still holding the creature then he must want to. “What are we going to feed it?” she would ask with a grin, looking at him curiously. She knew that dogs would eat just about anything you threw to them, especially if they were as hungry as this little one seemed to be.

He'd laughed at her teasing, but just shook his head. When she accepted his hand he wouldn't deny that he was quite surprised by it. However he shrugged and smiled when she said the puppy really did seem to like him. "That she does," he agreed. "Hmm. I was just going to go pester the cooks in the kitchens for any meat scraps," he said with a shrug when she asked what they were going to feed it. He ushered the Duchess towards the door that led back inside, not really caring if she had intended to go with him or not. He knew that the only reason the puppy had been found was because of her. When they reached the kitchens he suddenly found that they were swarmed by women cooing over the little puppy. He shook his head, but it helped them to agree to fetch some meet scraps for the puppy. Once one of the girls returned with a few different choices he thanked her and then ushered the duchess towards the back door of the kitchen. He could tell that some of the kitchen staff wanted to follow them, but he was hopeful that they wouldn't. Once outside again he would settle onto the ground and gesture for Treise to do the same. When she finally would he'd place the puppy in her lap and pick through the scraps of meet. "You looked like you were dying to hold her," he said absently as he picked out a small piece of meat and held it out for the puppy to take. He did his best to hide a wince when the little teeth chomped down on his fingers eagerly.
