When she pulled away from him and apologized he would sigh, a frown tugging down the corners of his lips. He hadn't meant that he was angry with her or anything like that. When she started to wander he would move to sit down, sighing softly when a knock sounded at the door. He was about to get up when Renny went and opened it instead, taking the clothes and such from the servant who had brought them. He would grimace slightly, “You really do look good in my shirt…” he would say after she commented that she was going to go change, though it didn't help any as she went anyways. He felt kind of like he’d just screwed up somehow, but wasn't sure exactly how.
When she finally came back out and approached him he would glance at her, smiling when she asked if he would lace up her dress, “Hmm…sure,” he would murmur, grinning when she turned her back to him. Before even touching the dress he would lean in and gently brush his lips over her back, trailing kisses up her spine before slowly pulling away and fiddling with the laces. He would purposefully take his time, slowly lacing up the dress with an almost stupid grin on his face. Once he was finished he would grab her around the waist quickly and pull her back into him, forcing her to sit on his lap once again, “That is why you shouldn't kiss me like that,” he would murmur as he nuzzles gently into her neck before kissing the skin there.
He figured that this was the best way to explain his reaction to her kiss earlier and honestly hoped it worked. While he really did want the woman, he didn't want to get into any trouble with the clergy, or the Queen. Or her for that matter; he didn't want her to feel as if she had been taken advantage of.

She knew he thought that she looked good in his shirt, but she'd been raised a proper lady; well as much as they could get away with anyway. There were things she didn't like about being a proper lady; such as the fact that she wasn't supposed to climb trees. However, that didn't change the fact that she felt more comfortable in her own clothing. The sleeves of his shirt had been falling down her arms too much for her liking. If she'd had those kind of clothes of her own she might feel more comfortable in them, but as it was she didn't. And the fact that someone had thought it would be funny to bring her a dress with a low cut neckline that showed off what little bit she had didn't escape her attention. However, when she asked him to lace up her dress and he trailed kisses over the skin on her back before lacing her up she shivered and her eyes fluttered closed.
The minutes seemed to pass very slowly while he took his time lacing her dress up and every swipe of his fingers against her skin sent a shiver down her spine and a flutter in her stomach. When he finally finished and tugged her back against him so that she was in his lap again, followed by informing her why it was that she shouldn't kiss him like that she wanted so badly to kiss him like that again. It felt at the moment as if her skin was on fire where he'd kissed her and brushed his fingers against her back while he'd slowly laced up her dress. She curled her arms around his neck and turned a little so that she could face him a bit better. "Then you shouldn't touch me like that or tell me those kinds of things," she said sweetly. She bit her lip and tried to keep herself from kissing him like that again, but after the way he'd pressed kisses on her back and onto her neck she wasn't sure she could resist.
A soft sigh drifted from her lips and she leaned closer to him, pressing her lips against his again, though she held back a little bit, at least compared to the last kiss that she'd planted on him. After a moment or two she pulled back from the kiss with another sigh. "I'm sorry," she whispered softly. "But you have no one to blame for this but yourself," she said with a giggle. "If you hadn't kissed me to begin with I wouldn't have known that it was such an enjoyable thing to do," she said a bit sheepishly. "Not that I'm complaining," she added quickly. "I'm just saying that I really enjoy your kisses so not kissing you isn't any fun," she giggled. "I liked the other kisses too," she said, talking about the ones that he'd pressed to her back and neck just a moment or so ago. The thought to see just how far she could push her luck struck her and she bit her lower lip as she seriously considered doing just that. He'd probably get mad at her or push her away or something, but she was curious, and that curiosity had been awoken by him, so it was only fitting that he should be the one to settle that curiosity, right? She leaned in and pressed another soft kiss to his lips, but let her lips trail across his cheek to the base of his ear where she pressed a few soft kisses and trailed them down his neck to his collar bone. "Hmm," she said thoughtfully.

When she curled her arms around his neck and spoke to him he couldn’t help but chuckle softly, reaching out to brush his fingers over her lips, “You…know exactly what you’re doing to me,” he would say, his eyes a bit wide and his mouth parting a little in wonder. She knew exactly what she was doing to him, yet she could still pull off the innocent, doe-eyed look. It was amazing, and frightening at the same time. When she kissed him again he would tighten his arms around her, pulling her tightly against his chest as his eyes flick closed. Sure, it wasn’t as bad as last time, but that wasn’t saying much considering exactly how passionate their last kiss had been. When she said that she was sorry, and then proceeded to say that he had nobody to blame but himself he would laugh, “Well then. You’ll have nobody to blame but yourself when I take you to bed,” he would grin cheekily, not really meaning it.
It didn’t curtail her advances though, as she leaned in to kiss him once again before trailing her lips across his cheek and to the base of his ear, before kissing down his neck. He would let his head fall back against the chair as he closes his eyes tightly, having to bite his cheek in order to prevent himself from groaning. “God, woman. You’re going to be the death of me,” he would rumble, though he made no move to push her away. In fact, he held her tighter, his hands grasping the back of her dress in order to keep her where she was.

When he teased her she lifted her head and laughed softly. "Well, you did start it," she said with laughter dancing in her eyes. She pressed another kiss to his lips and just snuggled against him, resting her head in the crook of his neck. A soft sigh of contentment drifted from her lips. "Also, I'm pretty sure you'll live," she teased softly in response to his comment about her going to be the death of him. She snuggled against him for a little while longer, though she wasn't sure why his hold on her tightened instead of him pushing her away if he honestly felt like she was going to be the death of him. She lifted her head and pressed a kiss to his cheek and then decided that she was bored with just snuggling. Not that there was anything wrong it it, but she felt the need to actually do something. So she pried herself away from him and stood up, moving off his lap in the process. She stretched as she stood, her muscles aching from having spent so much time curled up to him today. Normally she would have spent most of the day moving around doing some little thing or another, but today she'd gotten herself injured a couple of different times and somehow both times she'd ended up cuddled up to the duke. Funny how that seemed to work.
She wandered around his sitting room for a few moments, mostly stretching her legs as she did so. "I feel the need to do something," she said with a faint sigh. "I feel like I've spent most of the day immobilized," she said and turned a look to him that clearly said he was the one to blame for that. "Unfortunately there's not much I can do other than take a walk with my hands being pretty much useless at the moment," she said with a frown that bordered on a pout. "You're not going to confine me to your rooms the rest of the day are you," she asked, suddenly remembering that he'd brought her here originally to get her away from her brother. "Because I'm pretty sure that Alasdair is well on his way back to Sunil by now since the guards kind of dragged him off," she added as if that were the perfect excuse for her to get out and about and do something. A frown tugged at her lips as she thought of Esras for the first time in several hours. It was a bit strange to her that she hadn't seen him today and a small part of her wondered if she should search for him. She pushed those thoughts aside though, figuring that he would probably seek her out if he really wanted to see her.

Upon hearing her say that he’d live he would laugh softly, “Oh, I’m sure I will. Just in pain,” he would say with a grin, shifting to gently kiss her cheek. He liked sitting here like this with her, and he was certain he could spend the rest of his life just holding her. Unfortunately, it seemed that she didn’t feel the same way and would pry herself away from him before pretty much accusing him of being the reason why she hadn’t done much today, “Well…I didn’t hurt your hand the first time. And I didn’t get blood all over your clothes, nor did I make your brother act like an ass,” he would say with a shrug, though he immediately felt bad afterwards. “Not, that I’m saying it’s your fault, but it’s not quite mine either,” he would laugh softly.
When she asked if he was going to confine her to his rooms for the rest of the day he would simply stare at her, his brows furrowing as he tried to figure out if she really thought that lowly of him, or if she just wasn’t thinking or something. He’d even promised that he’d try not to be controlling, “No…I won’t,” he would rumble, a frown forming over his lips. Upon seeing the look on her face he would sigh softly, feeling kind of hurt that she would think he’d be so controlling. “You can leave if you’d like,” he would say with a shrug, “But I need to clean up,” he mumbles with a shake of his head before moving into his bedchamber, letting the door slam shut behind him.
Once he was in there he would remove his shirt, immediately moving to the wash basin. He would grab a cloth and soak it in the water before scrubbing it over his face, and then down over his chest and stomach, feeling almost as if he was filthy. Afterwards he would throw the cloth beside the basin before removing his pants as well, a bit startled when he noticed that he wasn’t wearing shoes, though he remembered that he had taken them off earlier today. Shaking his head slightly he would move to dig through one of his chests, pulling out pants and a shirt, as well as an extra pair of shoes, before dressing. He kind of felt like an ass, but he would try not to let guilt override his emotions. He had assured her time and time again that he wasn’t going to do shite like that to her, but she still seemed to think that he would.

She frowned when she realized that she must have said something wrong when he seemed to be a bit irritated. Oops. She shook her head when he said that it wasn't his fault that she was injured. Of course she hadn't meant that it was his fault that she was injured. Actually, she felt bad for giving him any kind of accusing look at all now that she thought about it and she shook her head. "I," she started, only to be cut off by him saying that he wasn't going to confine her and walking across the room to his bedchamber saying that he needed to get cleaned up. Her frown deepened when she realized that she'd really screwed up. She hadn't meant to make him mad, she'd just wanted to move around a bit, and had honestly thought that he might be interested in doing something with her. Without thinking she followed him through the door since he hadn't locked it behind him and was quite startled to see him standing there mostly naked. Oops again.
She blushed bright red. "Sorry," she squeaked out before she turned around. She started to leave, but figured that she could at least say what she'd come in after him for. "I didn't mean to upset you just now," she said softly. "I was just thinking that I should get up and move around some, and I thought that maybe you would like to join me in doing something," she said with a frown, though he wouldn't be able to see it with her back turned toward him. "Also, I didn't mean for you to think that I was accusing you of anything. I know it's my own fault that both of my hands got injured, and I'm sorry that you felt I was putting any kind of blame onto you," she sighed softly again. When she finished saying her bit she opened the door and slipped back into the sitting room. Now she felt like a complete ass, and even worse that she'd walked in on the poor man while he was mostly naked.

Alpin had just started to remove his pants when he heard the door opening, causing him to groan and immediately turn away from the door, pulling them back up. When he heard a squeaky apology he would sigh, "Don't worry about it," he would say before turning to look at her, only to have her turn around and face the door. So he could help her bathe, but she couldn't see him shirtless? He would forget about that, though, when she started to apologize and whatnot. He would shake his head, a frown tugging down the corners of his lips; he hadn't been upset about any of those things- he didn't care if she accused him of hurting her hands, or if she wanted to get up and do something. He did care, however, that she thought he was going to lock her up in his rooms like some control freak.
When she finished speaking and exited the room he would growl softly, following after her as he forgot completely about changing. He would push open the door and immediately move to grab her wrist, pulling her towards him. He would stare down in silence at her for a moment, his brows furrowed and a frown etched across his face, trying to figure out what to say. "You know, you're a very frustrating woman," he would rumble before shaking his head, "I don't care if you want to blame me for you getting hurt, or if you want to get up and do something. However, it's shite that you think that I would be so controlling as to not let you out of my rooms, especially after I promised you that I wouldn't be controlling towards you," he would say all of this calmly, trying not to raise his voice. "I'm sorry that you've had experiences with controlling bastards but I. AM. NOT. ONE. OF. THEM." he rumbled, his jaw clenching as he suddenly felt rather irritated.

She was used to having someone help her bathe, but seeing a man half naked? Awkward to her. She'd never even seen her brother's naked since they'd been potty trained. So, yes, she was a tiny bit embarrassed by seeing him without a shirt on and pulling his pants back on after she'd so rudely barged in on him. However, when he followed her back into the sitting room and grabbed her wrist she could see the irritation on his face and she turned white, especially when his tone changed towards the end of it. "I'm not," she started and then corrected herself. "I didn't mean it like that," she squeaked out softly. It was as if suddenly she'd realized just how much larger than her he was too, because he towered over her and was irritated with her. She wanted to run, but he had a hold on her wrist and she wasn't certain if she would be able to break that hold. So instead she swallowed her fear, though it felt like someone had a strangle hold on her when she did.
"I just meant that I thought you were afraid to let me leave in case something happened. Even though Al was removed from the palace I figured you would want to keep me here for a while longer," she said, her tone still really soft. "I didn't mean to make you mad or irritate you, I just...I guess I didn't think that you might take it that way. I'm sorry," she said faintly, her head automatically dropping. "I know you hate my brother, and part of me does too, but he will always be my family whether I like it or not. So, what happened today...I'm worried about him," she admitted and bit her lower lip. "Despite the fact that he's a complete asshole, I love him. And I know that there's nothing I can do for him because he doesn't seem to listen to reason, but that doesn't change the fact that I still care about him and feel bad that he is the type of person that he is. You might not understand that, or you might, but that's how I feel. And I need to do something to take my mind off of it because otherwise I'm going to end up doing the dutiful little sister thing and trying to beg for his forgiveness from other people. I know he needs to learn his lesson, and that's why I was hoping that you would let me leave your rooms," she said on a sigh.
"I'm sorry that what I said came out the wrong way," she apologized again. "I worry, and I'm used to that being the only thing that I can do. But I have to have something to do when I worry, because it's the only thing that makes me feel better. Especially in a situation like this where going and doing the dutiful little sister thing will get me no where except for possibly in trouble," she said on a sigh. She was still a little worried about what he might do with being irritated, but she'd forced herself to remind herself that he'd promised never to hit her. And while that might not mean something with other people, she'd come to realize in the last several hours that Alpin Mahon was not a man that went back on his word. "So, I don't know if it helps any, but I am sorry," she said softly. She hated feeling like she'd done something wrong, especially when she hadn't intended to, but she knew that she probably deserved to feel like that for making him think that she thought of him as someone who was controlling. She tried to pull her wrist from his grasp so that she could move away from him.

He immediately let go of her wrist when she turned white, taking a step back as guilt filled his chest, "I'm sorry," he would say, reaching up to absentmindedly rub the back of his head as his gaze shifted to her feet. When she apologized he would close his eyes, shaking his head slightly. Of course he had screwed up once again, and now SHE felt bad for it. "Don't apologize," he would say. When she said that she thought he would be afraid to let her leave he'd shake his head, "I'll always be afraid to let you leave, doesn't mean I won't though," he'd comment, silently cursing himself for being so stupid. When she said that she knew that he hated her brother and then went on to say that she would always love him because he was still her brother he'd sigh, "I don't hate anybody," he'd say. It was true, he didn't hate anybody; he might strongly dislike somebody, but he wouldn't hate them. "And you don't have to give me an excuse for wanting to leave. I'd never hold you anywhere you didn't want to be."
When she apologized several more times he could only shake his head, "Ranait. You have nothing to apologize for, you've done nothing wrong," he would assure her, a pained look crossing over his face, "Turns out I'm as much of a jackass as your brother," he would say, watching as she moved away from him. He would shake his head again before turning back towards the door that lead into his bedchamber, "I'm sorry for yelling at you. And I'm sorry for grabbing your wrist," he would say, his voice rather gruff. He would then open the door and move back into his bedchamber, though he would move to perch on the edge of his bed, leaning his elbows on his knees and burying his face in his hands. He felt absolutely ridiculous, and was trying to figure out what had gotten into him today.

When he turned apologetic almost immediately she felt even worse. She shouldn't have reacted in fear, but it was instinct. Truthfully she hadn't thought he had it in him to hit her, but her life had been spent with five brothers and they didn't tend to be the same way. But, then, what siblings didn't fight like that? She'd never known siblings, until they were older, that didn't constantly go after each other in one way or another. When he apologized she shook her head. "It's okay. I understand why you reacted the way you did," she said softly, but that didn't stop him from apologizing again and turning to enter his bedchamber. A sigh drifted from her lips and she followed him into the room to see him perched on the edge of the bed with his face buried in his hands and she felt even worse than she had for being afraid of what his frustration might come to. She frowned and walked over to kneel in front of him, taking his hands into her own, despite the discomfort of her hands being injured.
She dipped her head and pressed a kiss to the back of his knuckles on either hand and then brought her head back up to look him in the eye. "Look. We've both reacted in ways that we weren't proud of, but there's no point in us punishing ourselves over it when we've both forgiven each other," she said softly. She released his hands and placed her own on his knees so that she could move them apart and scoot closer to him and wrap her arms around his waist in a hug. "I don't blame you for anything you said or did, and I would have to be a pretty awful person to do so," she said with a faint smile. "I know that I can be frustrating. Believe me, I grew up with five brothers and they've all said they hated me at one point or another," she said with a soft giggle. "But for me to sit here and blame you for a perfectly normal reaction would be both silly and childish. I might be a child compared to you, and sometimes I will admit to acting like a child, but when it comes to those sort of matters, I do my best not to be childish," she said softly.
She leaned in and pushed herself up slightly with her legs to press a kiss to his cheek. "As long as we forgive each other we don't need to beat ourselves up over trivial matters. And believe me, as someone who grew up with five brothers, that was nothing," she said with a giggle. She rested forehead against his stomach and just stayed like that for a few moments. For whatever reason she felt that staying like this for a little while was the thing to do. It made her feel better, even if it didn't make him feel better. So rather than jump up at the chance to get out and go do something, she simply kneeled between his legs and rested her head against him.

He wasn't left alone for very long to figure it out before Ranait was there, taking his hands in her's and gently kissing his knuckles. He would open his eyes to look at her, frowning when she looked up at him and began to speak, "I didn't need to forgive you. You didn't do anything," he would say quietly, his brows furrowing as she lets go of his hands in order to part his knees so that she could get closer and embrace him. He would listen as she continued to speak, wrapping his arms around her and leaning down to rest his forehead against the top of her head, "You're not childish, nor are you a child. And you're not frustrating either, I was just...I was frustrated myself, because I thought that you saw me as one of those men that the ladies here tell horror stories about and I only made it worse by acting like one," he would explain, his voice as soft as it could get.
He would reach up to bury one hand in her hair when she rested her head against his stomach, closing his eyes for a moment as he allowed himself to just breathe. After awhile he would lift his head from her's before tilting her head up, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her lips. Afterwards he would smile softly, moving the hand that was in her hair to gently brush his fingers over her cheek, "I know it's going to sound weird but...I think I love you," he would murmur softly as he gazes into her eyes. He knew it was odd, they had only met this morning but he couldn't describe the way he felt any better than that.

She smiled at his attempt to reassure her until she said that he was frustrated with himself for acting like one of the men that women of the court told horror stories about. Her eyes widened and she immediately pushed herself up from the floor and settled into his lap. "I can't believe you would compare yourself to those men," she said with a frown. "You, sire, are nothing like those men," she assured him softly. "You didn't hit me, and though you got a little bit louder towards the end you didn't go off in a fit of rage and start screaming at me," she said as she snuggled against him again. "So, no, my lord, you are not anything like them, and thank God for that," she said softly. She snuggled closer at that and wrapped her arms around him again, feeling like her being close to him might help him feel a little bit better at least.
When he tilted her chin up and pressed a kiss to her lips she let her eyes flutter closed and kissed him back softly. She didn't want to drive the poor man crazy the way she had just a little bit ago; at least not yet, so she just let it be a simple kiss. When it was over and he spoke again she stared at him with wide eyes for a moment. "Oh," was all she said at first. It wasn't that she didn't have feelings for him too, it was just that his words had caught her by surprise. Her heart leaped to her throat and she continued to stare at him stupidly for a moment or two. What was she supposed to say to that? She shook her head and decided that it was probably best for her to tell him how she felt, too. "It does seem odd from the perspective of someone who doesn't feel it, I suppose," she said with a soft giggle. "Though I have to say that I think I might feel the same way. I've never been in love before, but," she bit her bottom lip for a moment. "I've heard about it and read about it, and I think that must be what this is," she said with a giggle.
She was positively beaming at that point. She nuzzled her cheek against his shoulder for a moment, just content to be held by him for now. However after a moment she lifted her head and pressed her lips against his again. For a brief moment she felt bad for how this was going to affect him, but she couldn't seem to help herself as she kissed him in a way quite similar to the way she had in the sitting room not too long ago. It was a kiss full of passion and the emotions that he'd brought to life in her. She'd definitely never felt like this before, so it was his own fault that she was kissing him like this really.

When she didn't respond to his confession he would frown slightly, a raw pain tearing at his chest as he swallows thickly. He had to know that she wouldn't feel that way; it was too soon, and today had been so riddled with crap from her brother that he should understand her not feeling any new emotions. He kept telling himself this, silently repeating it until she finally spoke. Her first sentence caused him to worry slightly, though when she continued it caused a smile to spread out over his face, the thoughts from just a few seconds ago disappearing, "I was worried for a second that you would tell me that there was no way you could love an ugly old man," he'd joke, laughter spilling from his lips.
When she nuzzled into his shoulder he'd hug her tightly, practically beaming. He felt as if he couldn't possibly get any luckier. Which was, of course, when she lifted her head to kiss him. He would immediately close his eyes, clutching her tightly to him as he felt the passion in the kiss. He'd warned her not to kiss him this way, he really had. Suddenly he would grab her just a bit tighter before turning and laying her down on the bed, breaking the kiss in the process. It wasn't for very long though, as he would move over her, capturing her lips in a fiery kiss filled with passion. He would lift one hand to gently cup her cheek, the other being used to prevent him from crushing her. He would truly try to keep it from going any further than this, but the woman was driving him crazy.

She couldn't help but laugh at his his comment. "You, sire, are far from ugly, and you're not that old," she'd said, wrinkling her nose cutely at him. However, when he kissed her back all thoughts fled from her mind and she was so completely absorbed in the kiss that for a moment it didn't register with her that he'd flipped her around and laid her out on the bed. However, when the passion of the kiss intensified she melted into the bed and her hands reached up to cling desperately at his back. A soft sound of pleasure drifted from her lips while she kissed him, muffled of course by the kiss. She desperately wanted him to do something other than kiss her, but she could already tell that the man was holding onto his control by a thread. Still, that didn't stop her from squirming underneath of him, her body working against her conscious to try to find some sort of attention that it felt it needed.
After several moments she broke the kiss and gasped sharply, her breathing labored. Slowly she opened her eyes and a blush settled across her cheek at the position that he had her in. She bit her lip and while a part of her felt like she should apologize for kissing him like that again, she knew that it wouldn't be a very heart-felt apology. "I would say sorry, but I'm not really sure that I am," she said with a giggle. She leaned her head up so that she could press a kiss to his lips again. If she actually knew what she was doing, or was more bold than what she was she might have done more than just kiss him. As it was she didn't know much, but then she remembered what she'd done earlier and found herself trailing kisses along his jaw again and placing a few kisses just below his earlobe. After lingering there for a moment she laid her head back against the pillow and batted her eyelashes up at him with a giggle. "I think you might be right about following the queen," she teased softly.

Alpin groaned when he felt her body moving beneath his, his hand leaving her cheek to brush gently down her side. She was right, he was clinging to his control by a thread, and honestly he was considering just letting go. He hadn’t felt this way ever, really, and it was truly driving him crazy. When she broke the kiss and gasped for air he would immediately dip his head to gently brush his lips over her neck, only to pull back when she said that she would say that she was sorry, but she wasn’t sure if she actually was, “Mmm…no need to be sorry,” he would rumble, gently kissing her back when she leaned up to kiss him.
He drew in a deep breath after the kiss was over, getting ready to climb off of the bed when he felt her lips on his jaw and below his ear, causing him to groan softly. When she pulled away he honestly felt as if he could whimper, and the thought crossed his mind to start begging, though he wouldn’t give in. He wasn’t that type of man, at least not yet. With the way things were going with her he might just turn into that, though. When she spoke he would grin, a little too frazzled to realize that she had been teasing, “I’m always right,” he would rumble, dipping his head to kiss her lips for a moment before smiling at her once again, “Let’s go then,” he would say, though he couldn’t resist the temptation to trail a few more kisses down her neck.
