Morgan Coughlan
She positively beamed when Abi unwrapped the necklace and she saw the expression on her face. "I'm glad you like it," she said with a soft smile. "It wasn't easy to find a craftsman who could cut the gem like that, and it took several years to get it," she admitted with a slight blush. "Actually, I had them start crafting it when I first saw and fell in love with you. Before you ever agreed to be mine," she said with a nervous laugh. "I just got it in a few weeks ago, but I was waiting for the perfect time to give it to you. I didn't want to wait until Christmas or your birthday because I figured that those holidays were a little too cliche as times to give gifts. But today seemed like the perfect day, since I'm planning to spend at the very least the majority of the day with you. I know sometimes you must feel like I neglect you, even though I promise I don't mean for you to feel that way. Being the queen and sole ruler of a kingdom takes a lot of time, and I'm sorry that I don't always have the time to spend with you that I would like," she informed Abi.

Abaigael beamed when Morgan spoke, talking about how long it had taken to get the necklace finished and how hard it was to find a suitable craftsman. She would shift forward to wrap the woman in a tight hug, leaning her forehead gently against Morgan's as she looked into her eyes, "Thank you," she murmurs softly. She knew that she was often upset about how much the other woman spoiled her with gifts and whatnot, mostly guilty because she didn't have a coin to her name and couldn't get anything but wildflowers for the Queen, but this one was just too sweet. When she spoke about why she had decided to give it to her today, and about how she was sorry that she couldn't spend every second of every day with her she would press her finger to the other woman's lips, trying to silence her. "I understand that you're busy, and I'm sorry if I make you feel bad when you can't spend time with me," she murmurs, "But I don't feel as if you neglect me, quite the opposite actually," she would say with a grin before moving to gently press a kiss to the other woman's forehead.
When she pulled back she would change the subject, "Years, huh?" she would ask as she brought her attention back to the necklace, "I can't believe it," she would say honestly, picking up the necklace and handing it to the woman before turning and lifting her hair from her neck, expecting Morgan to fasten it around her neck. "What would you have done if I never gave into you?" she would ask. She found it hard to believe that such an intelligent woman would purchase something so costly without even knowing if the person she bought it for would ever obtain it.

She smiled, completely content and thrilled that Abaigael appeared to love the necklace. "You're welcome," she beamed and practically purred when Abi hugged her tightly. She was very happy that the other woman was pleased. "Well, I'm glad that you don't feel neglected, but I do sometimes feel like you are," she admitted. "Yes, years," she giggled. She took the necklace and fastened it around the other woman's neck, but let her fingers linger, brushing the tips lightly over Abi's neck for a moment before she bent her head to press a soft kiss to the skin there. A teasing grin spread across her lips when she sat back up and Abi asked what she would have done with it if she had never given in to the queen's pursuits. "Well, my dear, why do you think I had it crafted with my favorite gem?" she teased lightly. She pressed a kiss to Abi's cheek, and at that moment there was a knock on the door. She shifted away from the other woman ever so slightly, but today she wasn't hiding her love for Abaigael from the kingdom. No. Today she was celebrating it. "Come in," she called and the door opened to admit several servants. They brought in a tray of food that was actually entirely too much for two people. One of them apologized, saying they hadn't been certain what the queen would want. A laugh escaped Morgan at that, and several of the servants starred at her with wide eyes, but no one dared to say anything.

She would choose to ignore Morgan’s comment about feeling that she was neglected, knowing that no matter what she said that Morgan would still feel the same way. Their relationship was odd; they could only truly be together when they were alone, and when they were apart, or standing in the same room but unable to acknowledge each other as lovers it felt kind of crappy. So, if you knew Morgan, it would make sense that she would morph those feelings into guilt, and assign them to the fact that she thought that she was neglecting Abi because of it. When the woman fastened the jewelry around her neck she would smile, only to shiver lightly as the woman brushed her lips over her neck, causing her to close her eyes for a brief moment.
She would turn around just as Morgan asked why she thought it had been done in her favorite gem, “Uh, because it’s my favorite color?” she would ask with a laugh, shaking her head slightly. When a knock sounded at the door she would glance quickly towards Morgan, only to blink as she granted whoever it entrance. “Uhm…” she would start, but before she could finish the door was opening and servants piled it with trays covered in food. She was a little shocked that Morgan hadn’t allowed her to as least get out of the bed, though she wouldn’t question it for now, merely watching silently as the servants became flabbergasted after hearing Morgan laugh. She had to resist the urge to laugh herself, instead smiling kindly, “Thank you very much,” she would murmur, “You’re free to leave,” she would say with a nod, trying to get them to leave as quickly as possible.

Normally she would have kicked Abi out of the bed before letting the servants in, but today she found that she didn't care. While she hated rumors, she knew that most of the kingdom believed them to be lovers anyway. Besides, there weren't all that many people in the kingdom that cared for her as it was. However, part of her wondered that if she openly announced that Abaigael was her lover and could actually allow herself to be seen close to the woman their opinion of her might not change for the better. There was something about Abaigael that always put her in a good mood, and she was much less prone to anger when the other woman was around. She saw the way that a few of the servants looked between the two of them, their eyebrows raising, but none of them said anything. "Oh for pete's sake. Stop starring and just go," she growled at them. She rose from the bed and grabbed the tray of food, then carried it to the table that she had set in the corner. The servants all bowed or curtsied to her before they scurried out of the room. She turned an apologetic gaze to Abaigael. "I'm sorry," she whispered softly as she slumped into one of the two chairs on either side of the small table. "It's just so hard to always feel like I have to hide our relationship. Especially when I want to shout from the roof tops the name of the woman that I love and dare anyone to try to take you away from me," she sighed. "I would fight anyone who thought they could take you from me," she vowed softly.

Abi frowned when she heard Morgan growl at the servants, watching quietly as she moved from the bed and went to move the food to the table before slumping into one of the seats. A low sigh would fall from her lips as she quietly climbs from the bed, moving quietly over towards the woman. Upon hearing her apology she would shake her head, “It’s okay,” she murmurs, moving to stand behind the queen and drape her arms over the woman’s shoulders, resting her chin beside one of her arms. She would remain there as Morgan spoke again, voicing her frustrations and vowing that she would fight anybody who would try to take her away, “You won’t have to, love,” she murmurs softly into her ear, trying to soothe her, “Nobody would try such a thing,” she whispers, trying to assure her that her fears wouldn’t come to play. “You’re the Queen, why would they want to mess with you?” she would ask rhetorically, just trying to reassure her that everything would be okay. “Nothing is ever going to come between us, I promise,” she murmurs, turning her head to gently kiss the woman’s cheek. She felt bad that Morgan was so upset about it, feeling almost like she should have done something to stop the emotions from coming forth in the first place; she should have gotten out of bed as soon as she had spoken to the servant to bring food instead of lingering.

She heaved a soft sigh of relief when Abi accepted her apology. She nuzzled against the other woman when she draped her arms around her. "Abi. I don't think you're understanding me. I'm tired of hiding our relationship. I shouldn't have to hide the fact that I'm in love with you just because you're a woman. I mean. I've hidden it for your sake because I don't know how you feel about us being a public thing," she said on a soft sigh. "I will continue to hide it for your sake if you want me to, but know that if you ever give the okay for me to make this a public thing I won't hesitate to shout it from the roof tops," she said sincerely. "I know that making it public would make things complicated, and I assure you that if you don't want it to be I will keep it the way that it is now. I'll find an excuse for why you were seen in my bed. I know the servants can't keep their mouths shut. I promise that no matter what you choose I will always stand by your side and defend your honor. I love you more than you know," she sighed and leaned up to press a kiss to Abi's cheek softly before settling back in the chair and reaching out to the tray to pluck a grape from it.

She was shocked, to say the least. She wasn't quite sure how to respond; part of her sang with joy upon hearing that the Queen didn't want to hide their relationship, while the other placed a heavy portion of dread in her chest. Every time that her relationship with a woman had been exposed she’d suffered for it, in one way or another. She would remain quiet for a few moments, trying to think through any answer she might give before speaking, “You couldn't possibly think that I actually want our relationship to be kept a secret,” she would murmur softly, closing her eyes for a moment, “But, I always saw it as a necessity. What if my father were to reject the idea? What if he tried to marry me off, or something?” she would ask, suddenly fearful. She was surprised that no rumors had gotten to him about her relationship with Morgan, though she was positive that now, after the servants actually saw her in the woman’s bed, that they would. She was sure that by now Morgan would be able to feel her heart thundering against her back, though she wouldn't move, “How could we be sure that it wouldn't cause havoc?” she would ask, though she tried to calm down and lighten the mood slightly by stealing the grape out of Morgan’s fingers. She couldn't bring herself to eat it, though, and would instead feed it to the Queen herself.

A sigh drifted from her lips and she closed her eyes, though she didn't part her lips to take the grape. She couldn't bring herself to eat now; her appetite was gone. "I know. You're right. I just. It hurts," she said softly before she pulled away from the other woman and stood up. "I don't blame you for this," she assured Abaigael gently. She paced across the room and her shoulders slumped significantly. She'd always dreamed that some day she would be able to make her relationship with Abaigael public. She hated keeping it a secret, especially when it was likely that her father would marry her off at any given moment. And, honestly, she's the queen. Ruler of the kingdom and all that. If she didn't want Abi to be married off, despite her father's best tries, the woman wouldn't be. A sigh drifted from her lips and she turned back to Abaigael then, lifting her head and squaring her shoulders. "I will go spread the word that you were in my bed only because we were sharing courtly gossip, and if anyone tries to challenge that, let them speak out against the queen herself. If rumors make it to your father I will personally write him a letter to allay any fears he has that those rumors may be true," she said softly before she started across the room to the door.

Abaigael would sigh and drop the grape onto the tray when Morgan refused to eat it, biting at her lip as she tries to figure out how to do damage control with her lover. When she said that she knew and that it hurt Abaigael couldn't help but frown, her heart aching at the woman’s words. When she pulled away from her and stood she would merely stare at the woman, feeling absolutely helpless. When she said that she didn't blame her she would shake her head, trying to think of something to say only to come up empty. Tears would rise unbidden to her eyes when Morgan paced across the room, her shoulders slouched before she announced that she would go make a decree as to why she was in the woman’s bed. She felt her heart seize in her chest, and would move to grab the woman’s arm before she could make it to the door, “You think they would believe that? When the servants tell everybody that we were in our bedclothes?” she would ask, biting back the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes, “No, if you’re going to tell anybody that I was in your bed, let the reason be that I'm your lover,” she would say, lifting her chin and squaring her shoulders; giving the woman a posture she had never shown before. She was truly trying to be brave, and she knew that this would be complicated, but she couldn't live with herself if she knew that she was the reason for Morgan’s unhappiness.

"It doesn't matter what they believe, Abaigael. They've been whispering rumors about us since before you ever accepted me, whether it was privately or not. Besides, I'm their queen and enough of the servants either fear or respect me that this won't get out of hand," she said confidently. Most of the servants feared her, though there were a few that actually knew her and showed that they respected her because they knew her. "No. I'm not going to tell them that you're my lover. You don't get to just change your mind like that, Abi. I'll fix this, one way or another, and no one will ever dare let it reach your father's ears," she said on a sigh as she pulled her arm from the other woman's grasp. "Get yourself something to eat. I'll return when this is taken care of," she said before she opened the bedchamber door and disappeared through the doorway, closing the door carefully behind her. She slipped down the hall until she found the person that she was looking for. One of her closest advisers that wasn't a royal adviser. No. This man she had known since she'd been brought to the kingdom as the late king's wife. She had no feelings for him except those of a close friend, but he often helped her get out of sticky situations.

Abaigael was not about to take that. Morgan could not just decide for herself how to handle their relationship, and she wasn’t about to let her. She knew that she was acting rather selfishly, and to be honesty quite insane, but she’d had enough of the woman acting as if she didn’t know what was best for herself. She was exiting the room only moments after Morgan had shut it, slamming the door behind her and racing after the Queen. Okay, so she was definitely out of her mind. No news there. Thankfully she was rather quick, and before the woman could get too far Abi had caught up to her, successfully grabbing her arm and jerking her around, her grip a tad more forceful this time, “Morgan, you need to stop it,” she would practically growl. She’d never called the woman by her name before, having always chosen to call her some sort of pet name or your majesty, and she even shocked herself a little bit by doing it, though she wouldn’t let it hinder what she was about to say, “I swear to all that is holy if you do not stop right NOW, I will…I…I’ll kiss you the next time you’re in audience and proclaim to every soul there that you’re my lover, and then you’ll have to try to figure out an excuse for THAT.” She wasn’t quite sure what she was trying to tell her to stop either, but she said it anyways, figuring it would work so that she might be able to talk to the woman about it.

She paused when Abi grabbed a hold of her arm and whirled her to face her. She starred at the other woman and opened her mouth to speak, closed it, and then opened it again before she finally found the words that had seemed to elude her. "Why? Why, Abi? What's the point? You don't want anyone to know. And like you said earlier, it's better if no one knows," she said angrily. It wasn't often, and in fact quite rarely, that she got angry with Abaigael, so her anger would be a shock. "Your father can't force you to marry someone if I, being queen and all, step in. Not that you seemed to have ever considered that fact," she growled. "But. No. It's fine. I'll just clean this up like I do everything else. Every other instance that we might have been spied a little too closely together," she huffed out on a sigh. She was so tired of hiding. So tired of not being who she was openly. She was in love, madly, with a woman who drove her completely up the wall with her ridiculous notions and the fact that she didn't really want their relationship to be a public thing. It hurt her because it was like Abi was saying she didn't want anyone to know that she was in love with Morgan. To her it felt like Abi was saying "I love you, but you're only good enough for me to love in private," or something along those lines. "Just forget I ever said anything. I'll speak to Maxwell and we'll figure out a way to fix this," she sighed.

She was absolutely stunned when the Queen snapped at her, her anger entirely unexpected. She would listen silently as Morgan raged on about how Abi didn’t want the relationship to go public and about how she would just clean it up like she had ever other situation like this one. When she finished by saying that she was going to her counselor Abaigael would finally snap out of whatever was holding her silent, “Damn it, Morgan!” she would yell, “I never, not even once said that! I JUST told you that I didn’t want for us to be kept a secret, were you not listening to me?!” she would ask, her voice still raised. She was rather upset now, though she couldn’t quite call what she was feeling anger. Perhaps frustration, but she wasn’t mad at the woman. “I’ve told you time and time again that I love you, what makes you think that I wouldn’t want to tell everybody else?” she would ask, pressing on. “Just because I’m scared about what might happen? SO WHAT? You should be too!” she would say, feeling her face flush with emotion. “You’re not allowed to do this!” she would yell again, tempted to stomp her foot or hit the wall or something, though she didn’t do either.

Morgan's eyes went wide, but then she forced herself to calm down. She didn't want to fight with Abi any more than the other woman wanted to fight with her. "I am scared, Abi. I'm terrified every day of losing you. I'm terrified that you're going to get tired of me, or tired of having to keep a secret relationship. I'm scared that your father is going to show up at court randomly and announce that he has arranged a marriage for you. I love you, Abi," she said softly. Then she pulled her arm gently from the other woman's grasp and reached out to pull her close. She did something she wouldn't normally do just then and brushed her lips softly against Abi's own lips. "If you are truly okay with our relationship going public then I might as well make an official announcement. But if this is something that you're not truly okay with you need to tell me so that I can work out a way to fix this. I love you dearly and no matter which you choose you know I will not stop loving you," she said on a sigh as she just held the other woman close to her.
