She laughed at his teasing and playfully swatted at his hand when he tugged on her night shirt. "Well, if it weren't for where we are, I might agree with that," she said with a laugh. "Maybe once we're both settled in at Carnaghan," she said with a playful wink and kiss to his cheek. "Good. I don't like the idea of not saying goodbye to you before you leave," she said with a frown. When he asked her what was wrong she shook her head. "Just silly worries," she said with a sigh. "I guess I'm just worried that if you leave without me being able to say goodbye to you something will happen," she said softly. "And I don't want to risk not having been able to say goodbye and I love you before you leave in case something does happen," she admitted. "I know too many people who have lost loved ones that have said their biggest regret was not being able to say goodbye or that they loved them," she said on a sigh and snuggled closer to him. She'd tried to push those thoughts to the back of her mind, but it wasn't an easy task. She gave her head a shake and then looked up at him, trying to smile. "Just be safe," she said.

When she voiced her concerns he would frown, holding her just a bit tighter against him, “I won’t let anything happen to me, I promise,” he would murmur. He hadn’t realized that she would worry about such a thing, “I’m going straight to Carnaghan, and when I leave there I’m coming straight back. It’s not a very eventful trip, I can assure you,” he would murmur, shifting to gently kiss her cheek. “You don’t have to worry about not being able to say goodbye or that you love me,” he would say with a smile, “I’ll always know that you love me. I don’t think that it’s something I could ever doubt,” he would murmur, curling slightly so that he could rest his forehead against the top of her head. He figured that he would worry about something happening to her if she would go somewhere without him, but it wasn’t happening so he wasn’t too concerned about it. He also couldn’t see how any harm could come to the Queen’s lady in waiting while still at the Palace, so it wasn’t something he had to worry about. He wondered briefly if he should, and contemplated asking one of his guards to stay behind to look out for her, but figured it would be pointless. He had a feeling that she would merely get upset if he did such a thing.

She let a sigh drift from her lips as he pulled her closer and tried to alleviate her fears. They lessened, but didn't go away completely. Honestly, now that she was thinking about it, part of her was worried that her brother might get wind of his returning to Carnaghan. Alasdair might have been banished to Sunil, but there was still a lot that he could do without having to leave the place. She didn't know if he was stupid enough to try something and risk all out war between Carnaghan and Sunil, but she did know that he wasn't very smart or thoughtful of things like that. He'd proven that to her when he'd decided to try to get the clergy involved and attempt to break her betrothal to Alpin. "I'm glad that you don't doubt that I love you," she muttered softly. "And I'm glad that you're not worried about leaving, but it's something that popped into my head. Now that I know my brother is a complete idiot who has no sense of self-preservation. I'm worried that someone will tell him that you're leaving for Carnaghan and he'll try something stupid," she admitted on a sigh. "And if he does and somehow manages to succeed," she let her voice trail off as she burred her face against his chest.

Upon hearing about her fear of her brother he would laugh softly, “Oh, there’s no need to worry about him. What can he do anyways?” he would ask with a tip of his head. “I’m confident that he won’t be able to do anything of any substantial damage,” he would grin, shifting to gently kiss her nose. He knew that he shouldn’t make light of her worries, but her brother was not something that she should be concerned about. He knew how to take care of himself, and he had guards in case he ever failed. The only thing he might be worried about was her brother bringing troops to Carnaghan or something, but even then he wasn’t too concerned. “Though, I am worried about one thing,” he would say, reaching up to gently brush back her hair, “I want to leave Davan here while I’m at Carnaghan tomorrow, do you think that you can check in on her every once in awhile?” he would ask, tipping his head a bit to the side. He knew that his daughter had caregivers, but he would feel more comfortable if he knew that Renny was keeping an eye on her as well.

She wrinkled her nose at his comment about her brother. "Well he might not be able to leave Sunil himself, but he could send people after you," she said with a frown. It kind of irritated her that he was so overconfident in that area. Not that she was mad at him for it, but she'd rather him be at least a little more cautious about things like that. The thought of losing him was already a painful one. However she wasn't in the mood to argue about it. She just wanted to know that he was going to be safe from everything that could possibly go wrong. When he said that there was something that he was worried about she picked up her head to look at him with an arched brow. When he asked her to check in on Davan every once in a while she smiled and nodded. "Of course," she said sweetly. Although; if she were to be honest, the idea of meeting the little girl had her a bit nervous. She wasn't sure if she should actually introduce herself as Alpin's wife to the girl or she should just tell her that she was a close friend of her father's and that he'd asked her to check in on Davan while he was at home for a little while. She laid her head back down on his chest and decided not to say anything to him about it. She'd figure it out on her own at some point or another.

Upon hearing her say that her brother could send people after him he would shrug, “Well, I suppose I’ll just have to deal with it when it happens. What would you have me do? I have a sword, and I have a guard,” he would say, not unkindly. He understood that she would worry, but she didn’t have to worry so much, especially when there wasn’t much he could do about it. He had hoped that acting aloof about it would make her feel better, but obviously it hadn’t. When she agreed to check in on his daughter he would grin, “Thank you. It really does mean a lot to me,” he would say, squeezing her in his arms. When she laid her head down on his chest he would reach up to sift his fingers through her hair, closing his eyes as a yawn parts his lips. He had no idea that she was so concerned about meeting his daughter, and was thus completely relaxed, and honestly quite tired. “Will you be upset if I fall asleep?” he would ask, half joking. He didn’t want to fall asleep on her if she still wanted to talk or whatever.

That whole not being mad at him thing for disregarding the potential threat of her brother? Yeah. That went out the window when he said what he did. She knew he wasn't being mean about it, but for whatever reason the whole "what would you have me do?" question irritated the crap out of her. But. She didn't want to snap at him over something that he wasn't trying to be rude about. Instead she took a deep breath to calm herself before she responded. "I wasn't saying you had to do anything about it. I was just expressing concern," she said simply. "You're welcome," she said when he expressed thanks for her agreeing to check in on his daughter while he was away. Concern danced through her mind over it still, but she wouldn't let it show. When he asked if she minded if he went to sleep she would shake her head. "Of course not," she said and turned her head to smile up at him. She pressed a soft kiss to his lips and then laid her head back against his chest, closing her own eyes in hopes that sleep might come to her. She wasn't sure she would sleep well with him leaving in the morning, though.
