A sigh drifted from her lips when he spoke and she shook her head at his apology. "I know you're not going to be gone forever," she mumbled. An involuntary smile tugged at her lips when he said that he'd said "or tomorrow". She didn't want to smile, but she couldn't help but be happy that he might at least wait until the morning to leave. The whole spew about not wanting to be anywhere without her both made her extremely happy and her heart clench. She felt like a complete jerk for thinking this might be any easier for him than it was for her. Especially because he'd assured her several times that she made him feel something that he never had before, and some part of her just knew that he wasn't the type to lie about that sort of thing. "It's not that I don't want to go there with you. It's just that I feel like I should be here for at least a little while longer. I can't say that the queen needs me, because I'm sure that she can do without me, but..She's pretty much all that I have. All that I've had for the last four years, and just up and leaving her isn't a thought that I enjoy," she said on a sigh.
When he said that Carnaghan could wait until morning she couldn't help the sigh of relief that escaped her. She turned back to him to see that he'd held his arms open for a hug, and she bit her lower lip before she stepped forward to wrap her arms around him in a hug. She laid her head against his shoulder for a moment before lifting herself onto her tip toes to press a soft kiss to his cheek again. "I'm sorry," she mumbled again as she returned herself to her flat-foooted stance and pressed her forehead against his shoulder. "I know I'm not always easy to deal with, and I'm sorry that you got stuck with that," she said on a half giggle.

When Renny spoke about the Queen being all that she had he would smile softly, “I know that, love. I wouldn’t tear you away from her,” he would murmur, suddenly feeling bad for requesting that she go to Carnaghan at all. Wouldn’t she be much more comfortable here if she became pregnant? She’d at least have another woman to talk to, to be comfortable with. He would frown slightly, his brows furrowing as he thought about telling her that she could stay at court for however long she liked, with child or no. Part of him desperately wanted to make her happy no matter where she was, but another wanted to make her happy AT Carnaghan, not away from it. Despite that other part he would sigh softly, “You don’t ever have to leave court if you don’t want to. I understand your want to stay with the Queen,” he would murmur softly, despite how much it pained him.
When he opened his arms and she walked into them he would smile, hugging her tightly against him. “There’s no need to apologize,” he would murmur softly, reaching up to gently brush his fingers over her cheek. Upon hearing her giggle he would laugh softly, “Well, I’m happy that I have to. Makes things interesting,” he would say with a grin, leaning down to gently kiss the top of her head as he strokes his fingers over her back.

Renny smiled as he wrapped her in his arms while she leaned against him. "I love you," she said softly. "And I want to go to Carnaghan with you. I don't want to spend the rest of our marriage living at the palace when Carnaghan is home. Not to mention I don't want to have to spend days with you there while I'm here. I love Moira dearly, but I'm pretty sure she can survive without me when it's time for me to leave," she explained. "Besides. I know you can't be truly happy spending so much time away from home. We need to have a normal life at some point, and as much as I may love Moira, living at court is not ideal for us as a married couple," she said as she pulled back from him for a moment. Standing in the doorway wasn't as ideal now as it had been when she'd been unsure if he wanted her around. She walked around him and into the room, pulling him gently away from the door so that she could close it behind them.
She returned to hugging him and smiled when he said that her being difficult made things interesting. "That's good, then. Because I did learn with my mother that when women are difficult normally, we're that much more difficult when we're pregnant," she teased.

Alpin couldn’t help but smile when she said that she loved him, “I love you too, more even,” he would say. When she started to talk about wanting to go to Carnaghan with him he would blink, his brows raising as he listened to what she had to say, “As long as you’re happy, I’m happy,” he would say, “And besides. Who wants normal?” he would ask, though he did feel relieved that she didn’t actually want to stay at Court for the rest of her life. When she moved to walk around him and into the room he would grin, following after her when she closed the door and moved deeper into the room only to turn around and hug him again.
When she said that it was good that he liked difficult, because women were even more difficult when they were pregnant he would laugh, “No, not more difficult. Just a different kind of difficult,” he would say with a shake of his head; he had learned that with his wife when she was pregnant with Davan. Actually, come to think of it, he had preferred his wife when she was pregnant over when she wasn’t; she hadn’t been as cold as she had been otherwise. “Anyways, I won’t mind dealing with extra difficulties as long as I get to see your beautiful belly swell with my child,” he would say, his deep voice low as he moves to gently kiss her cheek.

She laughed when he said that he loved her more. "That's doubtful, my lord," she teased gently. "For the record; I do. At least more normal than living at court. This place drives me crazy. If it weren't for the friendship that I have with Moira I probably would have begged you to take me straight to Carnaghan with you," she said with a giggle. She leaned up on her tip toes to press a kiss to his lips and then lowered herself to snuggle against him again, enjoying the feeling of his arms wrapped around her. While she wasn't looking forward to him having to be gone the next day, she couldn't deny that she was glad he had chosen to stay for the night. It might not be much, but for whatever reason it made a world of difference to her. It meant that she had at least one more night with him as a newly married couple before he had to take off.
She laughed at his next comments. "My mother wasn't too horrible with the first of my younger brothers, but with the second and third ones she was down right mean," she said. Her expression softened at his last words. "My mother got pregnant with Al on her wedding night," she giggled. "I think the majority of my family has proven their fertility, so at least there's that," she paused, and after a moment or two she pulled back from the hug and moved to sit on a chair in the corner and pulled her feet up next to her. She turned her attention back to Alpin and found herself wondering how he might react if she did have a girl. He already had a daughter, and she suspected that half the reason he'd married again was so that he could have a son or sons. Of course if she could she'd choose for the baby to be a boy to make him happy, but she couldn't.

When she said that it was doubtful he would laugh, tugging her even closer to him and dipping his head to press a kiss to her lips, “No, it’s not,” he would murmur with a wink. Upon hearing her say that she wanted normal he would grin, shaking his head slightly, “Well, I suppose you do have a point,” he would say with a shrug, “But, I would still stay here with you if that’s something that you wanted,” he would say, his voice honest. When she spoke about how her mother was with her brothers he couldn’t help but laugh, “When my late wife was pregnant with Davan she was much nicer to me, I think it was maybe because I’d finally given her something that she would truly enjoy,” he would say with a shrug, “Unfortunately, she passed before she could actually enjoy her,” he would murmur, letting his gaze shift away from Renny and to the floor. That was probably the worst part about her death; he hadn’t liked her much, but he’d known that his late wife had loved their daughter more than anything else in the world yet she’d passed a few weeks after she was born.
He would let it drift from his thoughts when she spoke about her mother having gotten pregnant with Al on her wedding night, “Well, I kind of hope that we’re that lucky,” he would say with a grin, his eyes shifting to eye her belly for a moment before lifting to her eyes, “Davan would certainly enjoy a younger sibling,” he would say with a smile. When she moved away to sit in a chair in the corner of the room he would follow, sitting at her feet and resting his head against her knee as he looks up at her, “What are you thinking?” he would ask, a smile still teasing at the corners of his lips. She seemed to be contemplating something,

She'd laughed when he'd said that it wasn't doubtful that he loved her more. However, she didn't really have much to say to that so she'd just shaken her head afterwards, returning the kiss that he planted on her lips. When he talked about his deceased wife a frown tugged at the corner of her lips. "I'm sorry," she'd said before crossing the room over to the chair that she'd settled in. When he said he hoped that they were that lucky she'd just smiled. According to the way her mother had taught her to calculate it was a distinct possibility, but she wasn't going to say anything or let herself get her hopes up. There was still a while before her first missed cycle, and she knew that one missed cycle didn't necessarily mean anything. It was why women usually didn't say anything to their husbands until what they called the "quickening" was felt.
When he crossed the room an settled at her feet; resting his head on her knees, she let her bandaged hand sink into his hair, brushing her fingers through it. A smile curved her lips and her heart seemed to swell with love for the man on a regular basis. Especially when he did little things like this with and for her. The fact that he was willing to live at court for an undetermined length of time to keep her happy definitely made her love him that much more. When he interrupted her thoughts she returned her gaze to him, realizing that her concern over what his reaction to another daughter might be must have shown on her face. She bit her lower lip for a moment before she finally responded. "I know you want a son, and I do too, but we don't get to choose, and I guess I'm just worried about how you would react to another daughter," she admitted sheepishly, turning her head away from him.

He would close his eyes upon feeling her hand in his hair, letting out a soft, content sigh. He liked the feeling of her messing with his hair, nobody else having ever done it before. It did feel rather amazing though, and he figured he ought to have her do it more often. When she answered his question he would open his eyes, grinning up at her, “Well, I would be lying if I said that I didn’t want a son,” he would say with a laugh, “But, I know that it wouldn’t be your fault; it’s in God’s control whether or not I have a son, and if he wants me to have only daughters then I will do my best to understand his wants. Besides, Davan is such an angel that I wouldn’t mind another daughter,” he would say turning his head to gently kiss her knee. He hoped that he had helped to staunch her fears, though it had caused him to really think about it. He figured that what he had said was true, though he really would be disappointed if he never got a son. Part of him was petty and didn’t want to leave his estate to a daughter, despite knowing that women could be intelligent and well versed in these things as well. Look at Queen Morgan; she was running an entire kingdom without a King. Despite knowing this, he was still stuck on tradition…it was complicated, trying to hold tradition while also being logical.

After a moment or two of running her fingers through his hair she slipped off the chair to sit closer to him. With him leaving for Carnaghan in the morning she wanted to be as close to him as possible for the remainder of the time they had together before he left. So she leaned her head against his shoulder, but lifted her bandaged hand to run her fingers through his hair again. A smile curved her lips when he spoke and she nodded. "Well, if my mother's luck passed on to me, then we might just end up with a whole slew of boys," she said with a giggle. She leaned her head up to press a soft kiss to his lips, letting her eyes fall closed and her lips linger against his for a moment or two before she blinked her eyes open and smiled up at him. There was no denying that she loved the way she felt when she was with him, and if she could manage to feel like this for at least the majority of their marriage she would consider it a success. "Though I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't love to have at least one daughter," she said with a sheepish grin.

When she slipped off of the chair he would shift so that he was able to pull her into his lap, wrapping his arms loosely around her. Upon hearing her say that if her mother’s luck was passed onto her then they would have a bunch of boys he would laugh, “Well, just one would be fine with me. I’ve heard they’re quite rowdy,” he would say with a playful wink. He wondered briefly what it would be like to raise a whole crew of boys, and couldn’t help but shudder at the thoughts that ran through his head. When she kissed him he would smile, his eyes drifting shut as he kisses her back, tugging her tightly against him only to lighten his hold when she opened her eyes and shifted back. Upon hearing her say that she would love to have at least one daughter he would grin, “Well, there’s a good chance that you will,” he would say with a wink, “I plan to have at least a couple of children,” he would say with a grin, leaning in to press a light kiss to her lips. “As long as you’re okay with that, of course,” he’d say, knowing that it was her body that would be tortured during the process.

She snuggled into his lap and nuzzled her head against his shoulder when he pulled her there. Her eyes drifted closed for a moment or two, but she was listening to what he had to say, and a giggle drifted from her lips when he said what he did about boys. "Ugh. Rowdy is an understatement. Trust the girl with five brothers," she said with a grin, peaking at him through partially opened eyes before letting them drift back closed as she snuggled closer to him. "Though I have to admit that there were times when I was probably just as bad as all five of my brothers, if not worse. But; in my defense, I kind of had to be with that many brothers," she said with a grin as she finally blinked her eyes back open. She definitely felt like she could fall asleep like this, cuddled up in his lap while they just chatted. It was nice. Probably one of the nicest experiences she'd had in a long time that didn't involve the queen. "I would like to have at least a couple of children, too," she assured him with a smile. "Though I can definitely say I think my mother went a bit overboard with six children," she teased with a laugh.

When she said that rowdy was an understatement he would laugh, “Of course it is.” He didn’t have any siblings, so all of the horror stories had come from either his parent’s friends, or people that he’d met after Davan was born. They’d all claimed that he was lucky because he only had the one child, and that she was a girl because boys were just little devils. “Oh, I don’t blame you. Not after meeting one of them,” he would snicker, shifting to gently kiss her forehead. He liked snuggling here with her, it made him happy to have her so close. When she said that she’d like a couple of children, but six was just a bit overboard he couldn’t help but laugh, “I’m afraid you’re right. I wouldn’t know what to do with six little heathens,” he would say with a soft bout of laughter, though the idea of having children with her did bring up one concern; he wondered if his own daughter would fit in with them, or if she would feel like an outcast because she didn’t share the same mother. He would frown just slightly as he thought about it, promising himself that he would try to make sure that it didn’t happen, though he couldn’t help but worry about it.

She flashed a grin at him. "Alasdair is really the worst one," she admitted with a giggle. "I swear he's always been frustrating enough to test the patience of even the most patient person in the world," she said on a sigh. "Neither would I," she admitted to his comment on six little heathens. "I have no idea how my mother managed to wrangle us all at once. It speaks volumes about her patience that we all managed to make it as long as we have," she said with a giggle. "Of course, she did go the smart route and have servants and maids around to help raise us, but we still turned into little hellions," she said. When she saw his brow furrow with what she read as concern she dropped her bandaged head from his hair to use the tips of her fingers to smooth away the worried creases before she pressed a kiss to his lips. "I know what you're thinking. You're worried about Davan," she said softly. "But I promise you that as long as she accepts them, they will accept her. Being the oldest gives her the benefit that they never have to know that I'm not her mother until she's ready to tell them when she's older. I will do my best to help her feel like she belongs in this family no matter what," she said. "I can't promise that I'll be perfect, or that she'll be willing to accept me as part of her family, but I can promise that I will try."

When she brushed her fingers between his brows before kissing him he would smile softly, only to blink upon hearing her words, wondering how she could have known. As she spoke his smile would broaden, and he would reach out to brush his fingers over her cheek in a loving gesture, “You truly are a Saint,” he would murmur softly. “I know that you aren’t her mother, and that you don’t have to treat her as if she is actually yours, but it means that world to me that you’re willing to try,” he would murmur honestly. He loved his daughter more than he thought Ranait would ever know, and truly did want what was best for her, “I’m sure that you two will get along nicely…she’s been asking for a mommy lately,” he would admit, pulling a hand back to run it through his hair before resting it on her hip. “How did you know I was worrying about it?” he would ask suddenly, his head tipping a bit to the side as he watches her, curious. Sure, he was able to pick up when her mood was off, but he could never figure out why it might be that she wasn’t completely happy.

She smiled softly. "You're my husband and I love children," she said with a shrug to his first words. "Besides. I've heard too many horror stories about what most step-mothers are. I always told myself that if I ever ended up as a step-mother I would do everything I could to make that child or those children feel loved," she said. Her lips split with a smile when he said he was sure that she and his daughter would get along, and her heart broke a little at the asking for a mommy comment. "Oh," she said softly. "That makes me really hope she'll like me," she said with a smile. "I'm a mind reader," she teased when he asked how she'd known. "Not really, although that might be helpful sometimes. It's just that you got that look on your face after talking about children. You already have one child, and it's a common concern; from what I understand, for people who have children from a previous marriage," she explained with a shrug like it was something everyone should know. "It's not uncommon for women to die in child birth or shortly there after, and more often than not their husbands will end up re-marrying," she said with another shrug.
