General Behavior: Ranait is typically a very quiet and shy girl. She tends to keep to herself and has all the makings of a "proper lady" (at least to the outside world) but she is passionate about the things that she loves. When she can be coerced into opening up, she talks about anything but life at court because she doesn't care much for it. As such, she can often times be found daydreaming of a different life. When she isn't busy day dreaming about having a different life she can be found "chomping at the bit" to go riding or hunting. If it were up to her she would find a way to change her life so that she no longer had to be a coutier, and could instead spend her time doing the things that she loves to do. Her family often chastises her for her passions being "un-lady like," but her care about such things is minimal. Life, to her, should be full of joy and passion.

{ H I S T O R Y }

Ranait was born the third child and first daughter of the Marquess and Marchioness of Sunil. Despite her nobility, the Marchioness spoiled her daughter as much as she could without angering her husband. She had three younger brothers, but being the only girl made it easier for her mother to dote on her. She was tutored and kept at home, where she was much too tomboyish for a proper lady, until she was twelve years of age. If it had been up to her mother, home was where she would have stayed. As it was, however, it was her father's choice, and when she reached twelve, she was sent off to the palace as a lady-in-waiting and courtier of the Queen.

Adjusting to life in the court was not an easy thing for the young woman, and it was probably a good thing that the Queen was as tolerant as she was. Thought she was quiet and reserved around people most of the time, she did find ways to get herself into trouble. At times the Queen herself would correct Ranait's un-lady like behavior, but she also got away with many things. Holding the Queen's favor has been a blessing as well as a curse, but she wouldn't have it any other way. If she were to fall from the favor of the Queen, there's no telling what might happen to the poor child.

As of yet her father has not arranged for her to be married to anyone, but she dreads the day that it comes to happen. She does love her family and was raised to respect and obey, however much it might stick in her craw to do so, but marriage to an unknown or unpleasant man is something that she hopes to avoid. Although she is uncertain she can accomplish it, she hopes that some day she will be allowed to marry for love. So here's to hoping that she'll fall in love with a noble man, because otherwise her chances of marrying the man she loves are slim to none.

Recently Ranait found out, through her brother Alasdair, that her father is dead. Her brother inherited his title of Marquess and the holdings at Sunil. He has also decided that since she is now his charge, he is going to see her married off. The man that he has chosen for her to marry is the Duke of Carnaghan; a man who goes by the name of Alpin Mahon. She knows nothing about this man, except that he's more than twice her age.
