General Behavior: Alpin is a very intelligent and confident man, even leaning slightly towards arrogant. He's very self-assured and aware of not only his intelligence, but also his good looks. He is, however, bothered by people who are more intelligent than he is, so while he has confidence, it shows that he's human. He's also a very devout Christian with no time or inclination for what he considers "heathen" religions. Despite this, his intelligence does not allow him to deny that those religions came before his. He's not an unkind man, but because of his station, he does look out for his own interests more than what most people would call "normal." Because of his title and the fact that he is, undeniably, getting older, his biggest concern in life is the fact that he has no male heirs to inherit his title and lands. This, however, is something that he plans to remedy as soon as he can by taking a new wife.

Alpin was born as the only child to the Duke and Duchess of Carnaghan. He was pretty much trained his entire life to take over his father’s title, and wouldn’t have had it any other way. He grew up hearing nothing except how wonderful he was, and how much his parents were proud of him, and when he hit puberty, he heard nothing except the fact that if he was a whore he’d be the richest whore in all four kingdoms. To say the least, he was the pride and joy of Carnaghan. He wasn’t just raised to be an arrogant ass, though. His father made sure that he was well versed in the art of “honor”, and that he had one of the best educations in the kingdom which included knowing several different languages. While his father might have been strict in some aspects, like his education and ensuring he never spoiled the family name, he loved him for it. He realizes that he would never be the man he is today without his father’s guidance…and his father’s death.
When Alpin was twenty his father died and in turn promoted his son to the highly esteemed rank of Duke. He quickly married, knowing that he would have to produce an heir just as his father had done. Unfortunately, the only child that he ever got from the woman was a daughter, and while he loved the babe with all of his heart, she just wasn’t the son that he needed. When his wife died of some strange disease he was actually quite relieved; the woman hadn’t been the nicest person alive, and she wasn’t a very big fan of Christianity because of this he had wondered often why he had married her as the only good thing that came out of their marriage was a daughter. Not to mention the fact that it freed him up to marry again and produce the heir that he needed.
He hadn’t realized how lucky he had been to marry so quickly after his father had died, because when he went looking again it took more time than he would have liked to find another wife especially because he was getting up there in age, and it seemed that the war that ravaged the kingdom had also taken out a significant amount of acceptable matches. It seemed that the ladies of the court, and other high lords’ daughters, were dafter than birds, and cared for nothing more than giggling and gossiping. Which just wasn’t acceptable, especially when he needed somebody that would promote his family’s name and help care for the young daughter that was left motherless by his wife’s death.
