Male
Heterosexual
Idritis
Heir to Keld
Personality: In a crowd, Zephan is seen as quiet and reserved. He tends to watch and listen rather than actively engage in conversation with multiple people. However, when he is in a smaller group of people, or with individuals that he knows, he is much more outgoing and friendly. He tends to be rather comedic, though he rarely makes jokes at another's expense.
Due to his time in his duchy's army, he has a greater sense of what the common man has to struggle through, and what he is forced to do to survive. He is also a very strong individual, and has no doubts about his masculinity. As much as he views his fellow soldiers as family, nothing beats the one that he was born into. There's nothing else in this world that he loves more than his family, and most of what he does revolves around making them happy. He is a little insecure in regard to the way that they feel about him; he is never sure if they approve of the man that is, or if he is making them proud of him.
He feels most productive when he is doing manual labor; whether it's serving with his troops or mucking out stalls. That's not to say that he doesn't enjoy the duties that come with being an heir to his family's estate, but he does enjoy completing physical tasks.
History: Zephan was born the first among a brood of five that were honored to his mother and father. Amena, his mother, had been his grandparent's only child and thus was groomed to take on the Grand Duchy. She was paired with a man from Brittany who was of high standing, though it was understood that she was to be the one ruling the duchy. She didn't even take his name; he took hers. She was content with this, and she ruled rather well. She had the love of her people from the time she was born, but it was only when she ruled with a fair yet gentle hand that she gained their respect. The relationship she had with her husband, Ewan, was turbulent at best. He often felt unequal to his wife, and struggled to gain more control of the duchy during the first few years of their marriage. It was only after being stonewalled on every occasion that he ceased most of his attempts, though it only morphed him into a bitter, jealous man. After eight years of marriage and zero progress in his station as Grand Duke of Keld, he was becoming more and more inclined to drunken fits. During one of them, he was arguing with Amena over one thing or another, and he ended up striking her. The next day, she had him beheaded and settled more comfortably into her position as Grand Duchess. Without a man to hinder her progress.
Unfortunately, that meant that she was left with five children to sculpt into fine members of society, without anybody else bearing responsibility for them. At this point, Zephan was nearly ten, and her youngest child was but a few months old. So, she entrusted her eldest boys to the Commanders of her Guard and Army to teach them values, and her eldest daughter to her ladies-in-waiting and matrons of honor, while she dealt mostly with the younger children until she could balance her attention between the five evenly. It took years until she managed to do that, considering she had to devote time to two babies and ruling her duchy.
It wasn't until Zephan was nearly sixteen that she grew more prominent in the day-to-day activities of all of her children, though it didn't seem to have a negative impact on him. The Commanders had instilled within him a great sense of pride and admiration for his mother, and he couldn't help but respect her as a ruler. However, just as she was growing more involved with the family, he was growing more involved with the army. Out of the two Commanders, he definitely favored the Commander of Keld's Army, Kavan Forrester, and aspired to be just like the man. He wanted to be a soldier, and his mother only saw this as a sign of strength, and permitted it. He grew into adulthood as a soldier, not as the son of the Kingdom's Grand Duchess. After he participated in his first war, the men he served with realized that he actually wasn't a spoiled noble, and began to treat him just like anybody else.
He became well-known for his persistence and skill, as well as his innovative ideas and thus managed to climb ranks within the army. It was when he turned twenty that he lead men into battle for the first time. Despite being nervous and uncertain if he was ready, he came home victorious. It was after this victory that his mother officially named him as her heir; she hadn't been certain which of her five children she was going to select, but Zephan had proven himself to their people and to the Army. However, she knew that he still had a long way to go before he was ready to be named a Duke. So, for the past six years he's been splitting his time between the Army and learning the things he'll need to know to take his mother's place. It has been rumored that his mother might retire soon, but nothing is for certain.

Freestyle
Zephan doesn't have many friends outside of the army, mostly because he's so awkward around people that he doesn't know. However, to the select few that have managed to stick around past the awkwardness, he is a very loyal and trustworthy friend.
He considers his mentor, Kavan Forrester, as his closest friend and ally, though it's doubtful that he's actually mentioned this out loud.

Friends
Zephan is sure to have plenty of enemies, having been in the army and killed people, but he doesn't have any personal vendettas against anybody.
ENEMIES
While Zephan is certainly no virgin, he doesn't really have any lovers. He's had his share of one night stands, but he's always been too busy with either the army or his family's estate to actually build a relationship with somebody.
