General Behavior: Manus is not someone who is easy to get along with. You have to be a "special" type of person to like this man. And by special; I mean just as big of a douchebag as he is. He is the type of person who says whatever is on his mind, and doesn't give a damn who hears it. (So long as that person isn't someone with the power to see him hung.) He avoids court whenever, and for as long as, possible. (Far too many knights, nobles, and nosy people there for his taste.) That being said, he can put on quite possibly the most charming, and hard to see through, face of any man who is a jackass like him.
He's not exactly in love with his wife; though he does love her body. While he has mistresses aplenty, if she even looks at another man he flips out. Needless to say; he's extremely possessive of his wife. In his head she belongs to him. No one else will ever have her so long as he is alive.

Manus was born the oldest child of Tiernan and Saorla Ó Rodagh. He was never the favorite of the Ó Rodagh children; that was left to his little brother who became a knight. If Tiernan Ó Rodagh hadn't been such a stickler for tradition; Dearg likely would have been named the heir. As it was, he named the oldest son as his heir, though he'd probably be rolling in his grave if he could see what his oldest son had turned into. Married twice before he was thirty. What self-respecting Marquess would allow any woman to divorce him? Not that Manus really had a choice in the matter; when the late king had granted her the divorce, he couldn't exactly not abide by it. Though the king had told him in private it was because he believed that the woman was not good enough for him. Yeah, he was friends with the late southern king. Two peas in a freaking pod; those assholes.
It was the day of his divorce at court that he saw Payton, and demanded her hand in marriage from her father. The man was only too happy to oblige, and not long after his divorce was official; they were married. He "spirited" her away from her family "rescuing" her from their abuse. In the beginning of their marriage he was an extremely charming man, pretending to be in love with her, and even being a bit on what might be considered the sweet side. Over time, though, he started to change. The changes were so subtly brought about, however, that it was hard to notice them in the beginning. He would make off hand remarks about her eating some sugary treat or something, and all the while play it off like he was just concerned what all those sweets might do for her health. Because the only thing he really loves about her is her body; he doesn't like when she does anything that might change it.
As possessive of her as he is, he has a tendency to bite off anyone's head who so much as looks at her wrong. He's been known to have men beaten for touching her or looking at her for longer than what he deems acceptable. She's probably not aware of this fact, however. The one thing that he would never do, and never has done, is strike her. But this pertains more to the fact that he does not want to mar her beauty, than it does anything else. He is abusive in other ways, though, and constantly reminds her that she isn't good enough. She was the daughter of an Earl; he is a Marquess. He had to marry below his station for her.
