General Behavior: Payton is a very sweet, even tempered woman. She's very out going and most people would love her as a friend. This is because she's the type of person who goes out of her way to do little things for people that mean something to her. She likes to give things to others as a means of keeping them, and her, happy. Because giving things to others does make her happy. She is constantly trying to please her husband, but doesn't quite seem to grasp the concept that nothing really pleases him. The only thing that has made her life bearable is the fact that she fell in love with him when he took her away from the abusive home that she grew up in. In the five years that they have been married he has never hit her. What she doesn't know is that this is because he doesn't want to damage his favorite part of her; her body.

Payton was born the first child of Patrick and Cait O'Cahan, though that wasn't a good thing. Her father was a strict soldier, a Constable of the late Southern King no less, and had demanded a son as his firstborn. When he received a daughter instead he cast her aside, and became rather abusive towards her mother. Thankfully, not too long after her birth her mother became pregnant again and her father was happier, even more so when the child came out as a son. When five years passed without another child her father grew abusive once again and beat her mother to death, only to turn his violence upon her. She was often punished, though she almost never knew why, whereas her brother was spoiled and groomed to be the soldier that her father had wanted. He taught the boy to be just as abusive as his father, and they would often gang up on her though they were careful not to let the same thing happen to her as had happened to her mother.
Despite her traumatizing life, she still managed to make friends. Her best friend, a kitchen wench by the name of Mary, was probably her biggest help through the majority of her abuse. Oftentimes the woman would nurse her back to health after the more severe beatings. After one of the worst she had experienced, she was dragged back to her chambers and the woman came to see her, not knowing that her brother would come back for more. He grew enraged when he realized that the woman had been helping her, and turned his wrath onto the servant, beating and raping her before casting her out of the estate. It wasn't long after she had eventually healed from that occasion that her father went to court to get her brother into the army and she was brought along with. While there she caught the attention of a Marquess named Manus, and he demanded that her father give her his hand in marriage. Her father agreed, but only because he realized that she would be more useful married off to a man of a higher title than himself than being at home for the rest of her life.
She happily obliged, knowing that nothing could be as bad as what she had experienced with her family. She grew to love the man for taking her away from her family, despite the fact that he was almost as bad as her father, only he was emotionally abusive instead of physically. She also blossomed away from her father and brother, making friends and coming to enjoy her position at Stathford. Her father died not long after she moved to Stathford (rumor has it that he was killed by her brother for marrying her off) and her brother has constantly sent her messages since, some of them demanding that she return to Linlea, and others inviting her home to visit. She hasn't told anybody about them yet, fearful that if Manus knew her brother wanted her to come back home that he would send her back.
