Upon hearing his wife’s question followed by her mentioning that he was busy he would laugh and shake his head, “I’m not too busy to spend time with my wife,” he would say, moving to gently kiss her forehead. “Did you have anything in mind?” he would ask her, though before she could respond he was speaking again, “If not, I was thinking that we could take Davan and go out to a meadow that’s not too far away. Plenty of pretty flowers and butterflies,” he would say with a grin, hoping to sway her from whatever she might have been thinking about doing. He loved spending time with his wife, but he also loved spending time with his daughter and being able to spend time with the both of them would be absolutely amazing, especially because he wasn’t sure how many more times he would be able to see them both before he had to leave. He had heard that the English King was rather upset over the death of his commander and that Scottland was planning on joining them to bring war to Ireland. Which meant that as a Duke he would be expected to participate in the war, though he hoped more as a tactician than as a soldier; he knew that with his intelligence he had a good chance of participating in that way, but he had to be honest in that there really wasn’t any telling what might happen.

When he said that he wasn't too busy to spend time with her she would smile at him. Of course, she didn't have time to respond to his question before he made his own suggestion. "I think that would be a great idea," she said with excitement dancing in her eyes. She had grown to absolutely adore Davan, and was happy that she'd be able to spend time with the girl now that she wasn't feeling too horrible. She didn't wait for his reaction before she practically danced down the hall towards Davan's play room where she was sure the girl was located. She rapped lightly on the door before poking her head around it and flashing a smile at one of Davan's caretakers. The woman gestured for her to enter, which she did with a smile as she crossed the room to the young girl. She crouched down on the floor next to her and smiled. "Hello, sweetie," she said warmly. "Your daddy and I were going to see if you wanted to go play with us," she said in the adoring tone that she usually reserved for the little girl. Davan had managed to win a special place in her heart and she couldn't imagine ever not having the girl around. Admittedly she'd gained a bit of a protective streak where the girl was concerned. She didn't know how the girl felt about her, but she was definitely fond enough of Davan to consider her like a daughter.

He would beam when Renny said that it would be a great idea, happy that she agreed. He would follow after the woman as she practically danced down the hall towards their daughter’s room, grinning as she didn’t even wait for him before going inside. When he reached the door as well he would wait just inside, watching his daughter interact with his wife. As soon as Renny crouched down next to the girl, Davan was jumping up to wrap her little arms around the woman, obviously happy to see her. His heart melted at the sight as complete adoration filled him to the brim, though he wouldn’t say anything; merely listening as the two conversed. He couldn’t help but chuckle softly when Davan responded enthusiastically to the invitation, scurrying off to grab the cloth doll that she liked to bring with her everywhere. He knew that it probably wasn’t the best idea to enable her attachment to the doll, but he didn’t have the heart to take it away from her. It did help, though, that when she saw him she dropped the doll and ran to him, barely giving him enough time to stoop down and snatch her up into his arms, twirling around in a circle with her. “Hi, darlin’,” he would murmur, grinning when she responded with a “Hi, daddy!”. He would shift her so that he was supporting her with one arm as she perched on his hip, moving to gently hold Renny’s hand with his free hand, “Ready?” he would ask the both of them, lifting his brows as he waited for a response.

When Davan jumped up to wrap her little arms around her she giggled and happily hugged the girl back. It was good to see that kind of reaction from her, and even better to see the way Davan reacted to her father's presence. If one thing could be said about Alpin; it was that he was definitely a family man. Which was odd for someone back then, especially a Duke, but hey. Renny definitely wasn't complaining about it. In fact, she adored him for it. She watched her husband scoop his their daughter up into his arms. Davan might not consider her as her mother, but she was starting to look at the girl as a daughter. When the girl calmed down a bit she stood up and scooped up the doll that Davan had dropped in her excitement to see her father. While she knew that promoting the doll wasn't a good idea; she also knew that sometimes those little things helped a child to function. Besides, she wouldn't give it to the girl, or even show that she had it, unless Davan started to look for it. When Alpin took her hand in his she flashed them both a smile. "Ready when you are," she said.
