General Behavior: Brendan is very much a "knight in tarnished armor." His life has made him rather jaded, and turned a man who once believed in love and happily ever afters into a huge cynic. There are still times when he can act like a normal human being, but they are much less frequent than they used to be. He carries an hair of sadness and heart break with him. Even his smiles are usually sad and rarely, if ever, seem to reach his eyes. Often times he can be heard singing heart wrenching songs about loss, but he only does so when he thinks no one is around to hear them. When he does act like a normal human he is usually doing "knight stuff" or can be found nursing some sick or injured animal back to health. It should be noted that his nights are usually spent drinking and singing while starring into a fire.

Brendan was born the eldest child of the Earl and Countess of Dawsbury. By all rights he should have inherited the title and estate, but his parents death hit him far too hard. So he passed the earldom on to his younger brother, and left to become a squire. This means that he never really knew Lorcan or Ciar. He heard about them from time to time, but any thoughts of keeping in touch with them were squashed when the O'Braddagh's suggested it would be easier if he only contacted them for occasional updates; never his siblings directly. Not much of one for arguing a moot point, Brendan agreed to their suggestion.
After he was knighted, Brendan met a lady by the name of Adelaide Cassidy. She was a beautiful young woman who seemed to enjoy his company and attention. Eventually he talked her in to marriage. He should have known something was wrong when she had no barrier to break on their wedding night, but he attributed it to her having ridden horses all her life. She swore to him that she had never been with another man, and he was in love enough to believe her. He was extremely naive and she was an expert in manipulation.
A few years after they married she came to him with the announcement that she was pregnant with their first child. He was beside himself with joy and excitement, despite the fact that there had been a strain on their marriage lately. She seemed much happier while pregnant, and actually acted the loving woman that he had fallen for. A hope ignited in him that maybe she had just been desperate for a child. He knew that he had been. But when the baby was born, things between them seemed to get worse. She started sleeping in a different room, and would often leave for hours, returning in a drunken state.
In the next year they "slept together" once, and amazingly she got pregnant again. She sobered up and once again transformed into a loving woman. He, however, was reluctant to accept her this time. After the monster she had turned into on their son's birth, no one could blame him. This time she gave birth to a girl, and turned down right violent towards him. Especially when she would come home drunk. Despite his knight training, there were several times when he thought she would kill him. And if it hadn't been for the fact that she was never sober, she might have succeeded. As it was, she did manage to give him several scars.
When war broke out in the kingdom, it was actually a relief to him. It meant that he got to escape her drinking and violence. War was hell, but it was still better than what waited for him at home. When it was over, he was shocked to come home to a sober and sweet wife. He hesitated to trust her, but she did a masterful job of seducing him and making him fall in love with her again. She used the children against him to her own means. And both he and she managed to convince him that their marriage could be happy again. Low and behold, right before the second war, she revealed that she was pregnant yet again.
He fought like hell to make it home safe to his wife and children. This time he returned to the drunk, violent woman who kept him from seeing his children, and constantly tried to kill him. One night she came to him, completely sober, with a peace offering in the form of a drink and promised massage. He hesitated, but she wore down his defenses. All he ever wanted was for her to love him, and she always knew to play on that. It was his biggest weakness, and she exploited it to no end. What he had no way of knowing was that she had drugged the mug of ale that she had brought him. So while she worked on his defenses, the drug worked on knocking him out temporarily.
When he came to she had tied him up and the drug still affected him. He could see and hear, but had no real range of motion with his limbs. And that was when she revealed her lover to him. They made him watch them, while they both informed him that none of the children he'd believed to be his, were. They had been having an affair since before Brendan had married her, which was the real reason she'd had no barrier to break on their wedding night. And no, she had never actually loved him. He felt his heart and soul shatter. Though he believed most of it to be because of the children. Eventually they let him go, but not before they made him swear that he would never come back to the town or go near the children.
Now he has decided to return to the Eastern court. He hears that the new king is a son of the O'Braddagh's, and that he and Lorcan are as close as brothers. He is hoping to petition the king for a divorce, and maybe get to see his siblings again.
