General Behavior: If you looked up the phrase "pompous asshole" in the dictionary, that is where you would find Carrick Laighleis. Rick believes himself to be above the law and that rules do not apply to him. He is convinced that anyone can be bought with just the right amount of coin or with knowing the right person. Rick is headstrong and can have
violent tendencies, especially when drinking. He disapproves of Knights in general as he believes that they think they are better than everyone else yet he is the one that actually thinks he is better than everyone around him. If he feels that he isn't getting his way, he will completely write a person out of his life. At the moment, his daughter is the only one in his family that he hasn't written out of his life. In fact, he was so pissed off at his son Aengus for joining the Knighthood that he disowned him and made his younger child, Ailis, his heir.

Carrick was the first born son of Ardan and Brannagh Laighleis, the Earl and Countess of Ainran, respectively. His younger brother, Jarlath, was born ten years later. Being the only child of an Earl and Countess for ten years caused Rick to become very spoiled. He was rather a bratty child and even at that young age he wanted things done his way. His parents realized their mistakes too late, and did much better with Jarlath because of it. That is partially why there is such tension between the brothers to the point that they no longer speak to each other. Carrick grew up to be a very spoiled man and never worked a day in his life if he could help it. Whereas his brother Jarlath is an honorable man. Carrick grew up with the late Southern King, Uinseann Dolan, and theyre good friends.
Carrick fell in lust with a beautiful woman, and somehow convinced Aine's parents to let them be wed. (Rumor has it that he paid a mighty sum for his beautiful wife.) Aine first bore him a son, Aengus, and then a daughter, Ailis. After Ailis was born, the Earl of Ainran, Ardan, passed away and left his title to his eldest son, Carrick. There had been rumors circling that Ardan was intending to change his heir to his second son but died before he could do so. Those some rumors hint that Carrick might have had something to do with the death of his own father, but whether there is any truth to that, no one knows for certain.
Even though Carrick and Jarlath were not on speaking terms, Jarlath would offen visit their mother Brannagh, his sister-in-law Aine, and his niece and nephew at Ainran when
Carrick was away on hunting trips and the like. Aengus was particularly enthralled with his Uncle's tales of being a Knight and that eventually led him to join the Knighthood. Carrick was furious and disowned his only son and named his daughter Ailis his heir. Brannagh and Aine tried to reason with Carrick over completely disowning his son, but he wanted none of their interference and ended up no longer speaking to his mother either, though he allowed her to leave on his land. Aine was heartbroken over Carrick's behavior and how he was treating their family and she became very ill and passed away. Carrick had hired the finest doctors, but none could find anything wrong with the young Countess.
